You can probably find a new K10D without too much trouble.

Hmm... I doubt new k10D is still available unless it is old stock.

I vote for k10D if you don't need scene mode and AA battery option. When I had my k100D I thought AA option is important - but not any more as I find the lithium-ion battery is quite good and not that expensive.

I also find more functionality with k10D (two dials and TAv mode user mode etc.) quite convenient and useful. As suggested by another poster, I would wait after Photokina, perhaps if Pentax does not wow those enthusiasts who are expecting nothing less than FF body there may be a lot of used k10D or k20D available from those who will opt to jump ship to C/N camp (not me anyway )

I have decided to come back to Pentax after over a year... But in a small way at first. After looking at all the specs the K200D looks like it has the 10.1mp sensor from the K10D, Is this correct? If not, is it better, worse or somewhere close? Scot
Hi Scot. I don't have one but the sensor is the same as the one on the K10 which was itself spectacular. The A/D converter is different though. Some other processing engine/noise reduction may have changed - They may (or may not) have improved the high iso processing. I agree with you that its IQ looks spectacular. If fact, I personally like the photos I see posted around more than those from the K20.

Hey Scott,

I own 2 x K100D bodies and served as a second shooter in weddings for 3 seasons. I ended up purchasing a Nikon D200 so that I can use the primary shooter's lenses. I still love my Pentax cams though - the fisheye is a real treat!

Back to point. Taking from my experience and if posed with the question to buy another Pentax body I'd easily go with a K10D over a K200D.

- The picture quality on both cams (comparing the K10 with the K200) are similar since they are using the same sensor (10.2 MP). Used K10's are a bargain!
- You can use the same batteries and grip if and when you upgrade to the K20D (which is a body I heavily considered before jumping for the Nikon).
- Larger buffer and higher fps rate in the K10D (3.1 fps/10 shots RAW - K10 vs 2.7 fps/4 shots RAW - K200)
- 2 dials on K10 - I was fast with one dial but after using 2 dials on my Nikon, I know what I was missing!
- Slightly brighter viewfinder.

At this point, the only thing going for the K200D is the AA batteries. Situation - If your flash runs on AA and your cam batteries go low. Just flip the flash batteries into the cam and off you go! Just bump the ISO to 400 (or 800 if you don't mind the noise) and it's great with my 50/1.7!

Unless, like me, you find the difference in size & weight significant too. Or are concerned about the possibility of future firmware upgrades.
