according to this, it won't work cover the FF sensor:

The Pentax DA* 300mm F4.0 lens was introduced in 2008. It is designed for digital cameras, and as such cannot be used on film cameras as it does not cover the full-frame image circle.

but

Designed for APS-C but officially full-frame compatible per Ricoh. The Pentax K-1 includes full-frame correction profiles for this lens.

Read more at: SMC Pentax-DA* 300mm F4 ED [IF] SDM Reviews - DA Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database
I have an issue with these two articles, especially the first one cause the second article I am not exactly sure what they are describing.
My copy of the DA*300 covers the image circle of my 35mm film bodies and of coarse the K1.
Maybe I am misunderstanding.
I would hate people being swayed away from the DA*300 for use on a FF body because of a statement that may not be totally true.

to be clear, I just found sources

which appear to conflict

I don't own a K 1

but I do own K 3 and K 3 II and the SMC Pentax-DA* 300mm F4 ED [IF] SDM

perhaps someone that does own a K 1 or K 1 II and the SMC Pentax-DA* 300mm F4 ED [IF] SDM could bring the inconsistency to Adam's attention and

see if we can get it cleaned up

It's okay Allen
Do not take it personally cause I quoted you
I know that you are just posting links/sources.
I did look for an author of those posts but could not find.
So getting with Adam is the next probable step.

no problem, just wanted to make clear that I had no personal experience with the K 1 or K 1 II

I would like the inconsistency cleared up too

^^ I didn’t read the articles, but FYI Pentax has certified the DA*300/4 as fully FF compatible.

I think certain people know this.
What I do not like is conflicting information especially on a Pentax forum.
Guess what happens when you Google "Pentax DA*300"
Brings up PF individual reviews and if you click the "In Depth Review" Viola (misinformation).

You don’t need to do it all at once. Get a K-1 at a discount. Get a lens; maybe sell a lens. Get the grip. Get a nice monopod. You’re set for XMAS and birthdays for a while.

K-1, *50/1.4, *70~200 and 28~105 is one heck of a nice bag. 24~70 is cake with your ice cream.
Yes... I am thinking a K1 II, but will have to wait for my bonus at work... Then it might happen, I will stick with the 28-105, it will more than serve my needs all the reviews are pretty glowing. I knew buying the second FF * lens was a bad idea.

Can’t forget my crop bag... I pretty much have everything covered.

Didn’t mean to cause such a stir on the DA 300 on the K1 / K1 II... Just wanted to make sure it would perform well.

Thanks all.

You did not cause a stir.
We wanted to make sure that you and others new to the K1 understood that the DA*300 works perfectly with it.

The 28-105 and a fast fifty is a potent combination - to the point where I am considering whether or not to keep my DFA24-70.

The DA*300 is wonderful on the K-1, and completely full frame compatible.

Just buy the body. You know you want to

There are certainly some advantages to FF when it comes to certain lenses. But, funny to me that you bring it up regarding a 50mm lens. All the years I shot 35mm film, after the first 6 years of mostly having no WA and just one 135mm tele, so that most of my activity was from the 50mm FOV, when acquiring other lenses I eventually came to using the 50mm least of all! For my "normal" lens I much preferred my FA 43mm Limited! Secondly, if I wished a little more WA latitude. it would be my FA 35mm f/2.

The 50mm lenses I have gained more usage after I went into APS-C digital! If I should decide to get a FF DSLR, it would be to again use the above 2 lenses in their FF FOV, along with a few others. I would get it with the D-FA 28-105 for all-around use and having WR, and I might then even get the FA 31mm Limited as well. I would tend to keep the lenses on the moderate to light side so the whole ensemble would be less cumbersome. My largest and heaviest would be my Tokina ATX 28-70mm f/2.6-2.8 Pro II.
I too love the 50mm range on crop for portraits. Heck I have gone out only with a 50 on a crop, but like the focal length on FF from my film days.

Thanks Sandy. I keep hearing that on the 24-70 for a smidge 2200, 2300 bucks a K1 II with the wonderful all around 28-105 ticks a lot of the right boxes. Thanks for confirming the DA 300’s awesome performance in FF.

Hmmm... This place is like a bad addiction. You all were supposed to talk me out of FF!

Good point. After all this discussion the K1 II is next on my “hit” list.
