Green button seems to be the only thing that works with my KP and M42 lenses.

Yes, if you know you want to shoot wide open with K and M series lenses then use Av. But stopping the lens down will have no affect. If you want to stop down it is M mode you must use.

M42 will work in Av mode because the lens does not use open aperture metering.

I use it in two situations, with my manual older lenses (non-auto) and when I accidentally press it. I do find it useful sometimes, but it usually makes the exposure very bright so I adjust from there.

Yes

I use the Green Button exclusively because 99% of my lenses are K/M. I have one A lens that I use with the aperture ring (ie, not A-mode).

I use green button metering with manual lenses, also to get an approximation when using M mode (the latter is usually when shooting concerts with steady light)

In that case you shoot K and M lenses wide open exclusively

I shoot M42 lenses by stopping them down first. All these older lenses have aperture rings. What's the issue? Focus wide open, stop down, take your exposure.

But I rarely use M or K lenses. They make really nice body caps on my film cameras. And I quite often use manual focus on my AF macro images. I turn off the AF, and use live view to focus.

Using older lenses on modern cameras is just one of those things that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. But I can certainly do it if I want to.

I also shoot my m42 lenses in Av, but use the green button for K and M lenses.

I do it because the glass is cheap and I am a skinflint

No issue, esspecially with M42 lenses this works perfectly fine. K and M lenses just don't stop down in Av mode no matter where the aperture is set at.

edit: In that case I wouldn't need the green button either

I paid 50 bucks for my FA 35-80. My F 70-210 we got for 35$. There are skin flint solutions to that issue.
