Please bring me up to speed

I just went to the Ricoh imaging website. Looked up dsl cameras and saw just the k1(ll), k70, and kp. Looked under discontinued models/dslrs and here were the ks2, k3, k3II. Are these truly discontinued and what is coming? I know I've been away for a while but reading recent threads I haven't picked up on these models being discontinued. Am I misreading something here?

Nope, The K-3II is now out of production but still available at some sites, and usually at a good price when ordered with the battery grip!
Pentax is currently working on a replacement for the K-3 model but there has been no information coming out of the Pentax HQ on possible design criteria such as, sensor size, body size, Auto focus module used, UHS-1 or UHS-2 speeds, buffer size or anything of note yet.
A lot of folks here have said what they desire in the next flagship APS-C camera, but until the designers start to finalize things and suppliers and parts sourcing starts happening, we will probably still be in the dark.
I love my KP but it is not everyone's cup of tea so I suspect that there will be folks waiting with their check books and credit cards in hand once they announce specs for the new camera body.

Photokina is next month, but don't expect any announcements. The earliest we will probably know about the next APS-C would be CP+.

This isn't news or rumor either.

The K-3 II is outgoing but still readily available it seems. We no knowing about a replacement, beyond Pentax's intentions to release one. Maybe Photokina, but probably not until CP+ IMO.

I think I would like the KP. The only draw back and only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on one is I have gotten so used to a fully articulating screen of the K-S2. I am afraid I would moss it.

Yup. Patiently waiting while fighting off urges to purchase a D500.

I wouldn't want a fully articulating screen, because it ends out to the camera side when down; I like a "flipping" screen {like KP better} better, because it keeps the screen behind the camera when down

Photokina could be a big surprise. As all eyes will be onthe new Nikon and /or Canon mirrorless, the space could be free for a top of the line APSC from Pentax. I am sure the Nik$$ and Cano$$ will be expensive, the new APSC could win easily the title of best nez APSC of the year

Pentax, before and now under Ricoh, has been pretty secretive regarding new releases. The K3II is due for a replacement, not a K3III we hope.
I don't need to replace my K3II, but my K5 maybe.

Indeed. Just like every single other technology company in the world. Buying an iPhone...the next one is soon. So is the next Playstation. So is the next Alfa Romeo. So is the next LG TV. So is the next Yamaha bike. So is the next Xiaomi smartwatch. So on and so on.

If you need a body now, buy whatever you want now. If not, see what is available when you do need it. Simple.

I for one am glad they don't splurge out new models in some upgrade diarrhea like Apple. I'd rather they released models with some longevity...my K-3II may be a relatively old design, but it still holds its own even in today's marketplace, and still takes great images. I'll replace it when it breaks, with whatever is best at the time...if that's tomorrow, it'll be a K-3II.

I use K3 II without complex. I replace them my old K200D and I will be late for another camera in the future.
