Do plane tickets count as photo "accessories"? Cause they really do help with your shooting...! And what about classes? Cause if I had $5k floating around, I'd rather travel, either on my own to, say, an eco-lodge in Costa-Rica, or to attend something like Bugshot. A more appropriate question for me would be: if you had a $5k budget to improve your photography, how would you spend it? Then we'd see how many people are gear-centric...

But for the current (Pentax) gear wish-list. Let's see...
  • K3ii or KP to replace my aging K-3 ( ~$870)
  • Laowa 100mm 2X macro (pricing should be announced shortly, but let's budget $750)
  • Laowa 15mm Macro ($500)
  • DA 300mm ($1k?)
  • SMC DA 15mm ($300 used)
That's only about $3.5k, right?

Maybes, if I had to spend the whole thing on gear:
  • DA 55mm
  • 16-85mm
And a oh-what-the-heck:
  • Pentax-A 50mm F/1.2 or a good used 55mm F/1.2, maybe a converted Canon FL 55mm F/1.2 from DCShooter.
But I think I'd rather spend only up to $3.5k on photo gear and then keep at least $1.5k for a trip to an eco-lodge in a place like Costa Rica so I have nice things to shoot with all that gear.

Actually, now that I think about it, if I knew I could spend on travel, I could make do with just a new body, a 16-85mm (to have a sealed walkaround for Costa Rica) and maybe a DA 300mm if I need something long...

Wishful thinking:
  • Bring on the K-3iii instead of K-3ii or KP!

Nope, per the original post, ONLY the following:

- Pentax-branded camera body or bodies - new or used, digital or film
- K, M42, Q, 645 or adaptable-mount lens(es) - any brand, new or used
- Accessories of any type - remotes, lighting and modifiers, tripods, filters, adapters etc.

This one's about the gear... We can go onto other things in another raffle-boosting thread (you should start one!!)

I currently have a K-30 {beginning to come down with the dreaded Dark Image Syndrome} and three lenses: Sigma 10-20mm, DA 18-135, DA 55-300mm ED WR.

I believe I can make myself happy with mere $1300 extra expenditure ..... for a KP {silver} and the PLM version of the 55-300mm lens.

However, if I had $5000 that I had to "use or lose", I could spend the "extra" $3700 too

K-1 + 28-105mm lens and DFA 15-30 would take up most of that, and I would spend the remainder on the little stuff I don't feel like adding up right now - new memory card for the K-1, new bag for the K-1, etc.

This would give me two camera systems that can operate in the 15-105mm range {"effective 35mm"} and the KP that could handle the longer needs.

I briefly considered dropping some of this stuff to fit in the 150-450mm lens, but quite honestly, I'm not sure I want to lug that around with me.
Hi Reh321

Don't forget the sherpa apparently they only cost peanuts

FA*300 F4.5
Own money for a high end ball head and bigger tripod and monopod.

In order of importance:

* Film Scanner, to make it faster & easier to digitize the thousands of rolls of film that I shot between 1972 and 1993. Not sure which particular scanner I would get, but there are at least two available in this price range.
$2000

* Pentax KP silver body, as a second body to the black K-70 that I already have. Having two cameras is helpful in many situations, but I can't afford a second body at the moment (I'm currently saving my pennies for a used K-S2... but I'd rather have a new KP.)
$900

* Rokinon 24mm f/3.5 Tilt Shift Lens. I would love to have this when shooting architecture.
$700

* Rokinon 135mm f/2 Lens, to give me a longer reach at night sporting events than my current Rokinon 85mm f/1.4... and yes, you can shoot sports with manual focus lenses. It's a skill just like any other, and I learned it long ago in the film era.
$600

* Pentax DA 10-17mm f/3.5-f/4.5 Fisheye Zoom... just because I think it would be fun to play with!
$360

* Pentax F 85mm Soft. I would use this with Extension tubes to photograph flowers, etc.
$300 (used)

-----
$4860 total

With the remaining $140, I would pick up some miscellaneous accessories, such as the Pentax sensor cleaning kit, a 10-stop ND filter, some lens hoods, etc.

Hmm, won't have to think much. Here it goes :
- K-1
- D-FA 50mm
- Braun 120 FS scanner.

I think that would take me over $5k...
