K200D or K10D?

My situation is that I'm currently shooting a K110D most of the time and I K100D sometimes and I find that I'm outshooting my cameras abilities, or at least it feels like with a better camera I could take even better pictures.

My decision is pretty much down to either the K10D or the K200D since the K20D even used would be well over $600 and a used K10D or a new K200D can be had under $500.

There are some differences I know about from searching the forums:

K200D-
Better IQ (Some think, some don't)
Slightly Smaller Body
Smaller Grip

K10D-
More buttons rather than menu settings
Li-on Battery
Two Wheels

I would love to have two wheels and I'm on the fence about going away from AAs, I think I see the advantages either way and would be fine no matter which way that went.

One thing I couldn't find was if the K200D had the HDR setting that the K20D has. That'd be a neat little feature and the fact of getting a new camera rather than used would be nice, too.

I don't see either camera as a "downgrade/upgrade" from the other since they each have advantages depending on the shooter. Did I miss any differences, though? And what are your opinions as these two cameras face off?

Also, the K2000D doesn't really interest me anymore as it is SO small and I'm huge and I have no need for the lenses included in the kit.

Yes and no. I'd hate to miss out on things like new low-light helping algorithms...

Also, the image buffer is larger on the K10D, which will make a big difference when shooting RAW in continuous mode.
K10D: 9 frames at 3fps
K200D: 4 frames at 2.8fps

I'd definitely go for the K10D.

I'd still love to own one, even second hand.

I just switched from the K100D to the GX-10 (re-branded K10D). If there was only one reason to go K10D over the K200D I think it would be having the front and rear dials. You'll be amazed at how much of a difference in manual control you'll see with the second dial.

I bought an used K10d last week. K200d was never even an option for me as I wanted more buttons, larger buffer and a larger viewfinder. The K10d has much better menus and a smoother shutter sound among other things compared to the K100ds, I wonder if the K200d is the same here as K100d.

And the viewfinder is am important difference left off the original list, although I personally find the 200D still good enough.

K200D is *definitely* quieter in the shutter department than the K100D.

K200D menu system is similar to the K20D, which is to say, improved in some respects over both the K100D and K10D, but only relevant if you're often changing things. Me, I shoot RAW in manual mode with center focus and metering virtually all the time, so I never look at the menus, nor would I ever see myself pressing any of the extra buttons the K10D/K20D has. But the second wheel would be useful for setting ISO.

Oh, and yes, the K200D has the extended dynamic range feature. I've never tried it, but I hear it doesn't really do anything you could do just as easily in PP.

If I would have to choose between two control wheels and AA batteries I would definitely go for two control wheels.

Make sure that you have fully charged spare LiIon battery in your bag and you'll never have a problem. Of course, unless you're travelling to remote locations without easy access to electricity.

On the other hand, if you buy camera without two control wheels, whatever you make it's going to be camera without two control wheels

Ok, now you guys telling me that the k10D is better! Actually I joiuned this forum after I bought my k200D.

How about the 2.7 inch lcd vs the 2.5 inch lcd of the k10D? Does that make a difference? And how is that the k10D has a better viewfinder than the k200D? I've never used a k10D before so I have ni idea?

K10d has 95% magnification and 95% coverage, K200d has 85% magnification and 96% coverage. There's a slight difference between K10d's pentaprism and K200d's pentamirror, prism is brighter. So K10d's vf is larger and brighter

So is it that the k10D has a similar vf as that of a Nikon D200? Becuase I tired the nikon D200 vf and was simply stunned and amazed at its coverage!

If you'll look here > Digital SLR Viewfinders: Size, Magnification, Coverage, Crop

It's actually slightly better.

Makes as much difference as you want it to, I guess. It's still just a small screen to check to make sure you didn't totally screw up a shot.

But while the K10D is indeed the "better" camera in most respects, there are some things about the K200D that make it a perfectly smart choice depending on one's needs. I chose it over the K10D for a few reasons:

- The smaller size/weight of the K200D felt better to me
- I *hate* proprietary batteries
- I'm uncomfortable buying a discontinued model of a high-tech device
- Quieter shutter
- Claims (not entirely proven) of possibly improved IQ even shooting RAW
