Coming Back to Pentax

I started my plunge into photography many years ago with the Pentax Kx, then bought a K20D. I used these cameras for years, but then the "bigger is better" bug hit and I bought my first full frame, a Nikon D600.

Years have passed, I got deeply into film, namely large format and medium format, even wet plate.

A few months ago, I saved up enough to get another Pentax, a 645D (bigger is better right? ). I am in LOVE with the CCD and files it creates.

Now, just this week I have come full circle and ordered a used K-1 from KEH. It will be here tomorrow.

I still have a lot of my favorite Takumar lenses from my early days with the Kx and K20D. I can't wait to start using them again, along with having IBS and using all the bells and whistles on my new (to me) Pentax.

Welcome back to the fold

I think you're going to have a blast with that K-1 and your Takumar lenses!

Welcome back. I bought a used 645D a few months ago, the best purchase I've made for a very long time. I can't wait to see some of the images you've taken with it.

Seems like just yesterday you loudly proclaimed your departure. Back already?
In any case, welcome back.

Good luck with your Pentax equipment. I once had a K20D also. Happy shooting!

Coming home always feels good, especially after a long trip away. There's a reason for that.

Hello everyone, first post and hoping for some advice. I too am possibly coming back to Pentax. I am very much worried about pulling the trigger on a k-1. Are they still recommended. The reviews I find either love or hate it.

My experience is similar as yours... I had a K10d, then a K20d and gave it up for a FF body (5Dm2). It was a nice run with Canon but I'm planning to get a K-1 soon. Silly that the idea of shooting Pentax has me excited about photography again but that's really what it boils down to. Even with the rise of mirrorless full frame I've all but made my decision.

Yup, I am GLAD I came back. The K-1 is such a great camera, and I can use some of my favorite lenses again. It was a shame that I couldn't use my Takumars with my Nikon, oh and the Soviet lenses. That old glass is seeing the light once more.

The new Astrotracer (new to me anyway ) is blowing me away. The K-1 has opened the world of astrophotography to me. Here's my 3rd attempt at using the Astrotracer feature with Andromeda. I am learning a huge amount and it is going to cost me money. This is 18 frames stacked, each frame is a 40 second exposure. Stacked in Astro Pixel Processor software and post processed in Photoshop. I used my old Soviet Tair 3 300mm lens for this shot.

How far are you from light pollution? Astro photography is really neat, but I figured in the middle of the East coast here with the glow of two cities in opposite directions in my night sky would be so much light pollution as to be pointless. Wonder if I should give it a shot anyway.
