any one using Impact DL150 Li battery with K10D?

I purchased an Impact DL150 li battery with my K10D from B&H Photo. I charged it up and started using it first, help the pentax for second use. I got about 110 shots out of the Impact and it went dead.

I was just wondering if this is normal for first use? or if the battery is bad.

B&H said to charge it again and if it doesn't make it up to around 800 to call them back for an exchange.

Hi Les,

It's normal for these batteries to take 2-3 charge cycles to reach maximum capacity. I have two of the Impact 1750 mah NP400 batteries and tho I haven't counted exposures from them, they are both performing fine for me. I'd wait until I had charged it a couple of times before considering it defective.

Are these the impacts that are labeled "Pantax"? I got a ridiculous number of shots off the first charge, and about half as many the second charge. I'd expect some erratic counts, but they seem to be working fine and settling down for me.

Bought one from BH - no problems with mine - I use both the original and the Impact interchangeably and I notice no difference (in fact the Impact may even be better - and peculiarly I seem to be getting less front focus in bad indoor lighting with this battery since it has a little more capacity). I found that as the battery level depleted the focusing accuracy of the K10D drops quite a bit in bad incandescent light. Maybe its all in my head though

Thanks for the replies, B&H told me to charge it again and see if it does ok. If not they will exchange it. I've recharged it and I'm taking a 4 day weekend in south Texas and will be shooting on the coast, so I will see.

Please give us a follow-up, Les, when you return. I got two of them from B&H, but haven't used them much. They were primarily as a backup to the OEM battery, and never ran the OEM battery down to the point where I needed to install another. Maybe I should exercise my copies more and put the OEM away?

You may want to. I've now put about 130 on the pentax battery and it's still shows full charge. I'm going to run the impact down a couple times this weekend, I will post my results when I return sunday night.

Others have reported the Impact batteries lasting at least as good as the Pentax. So time will tell.

i have the impacts, and as of late i've been getting 100 shots more out of the stock pentax batteries than the impacts. cold weather performance drops considerable for both batteries.

Just remember, neither Pentax or Impact makes the actual batteries! They cells are all made in the same factories, it's simply the chips in them that can vary from OEM to aftermarket...

Shot again

Well, I took it out this weekend and my K10D now has over 900 frames. The impact only lasted 250 on the second charge. The Pentax battery is up over 500 and I used the flash on several shots with the Pentax and it's still showing full power. So I'm sending the impact battry back for exchange.

Les

P.S. I will let you know how B&H is on exchanging it.

There shouldn't be that much of a difference between the Imapct and Pentax branded batteries. As mentioned, they are both made in the same factory.

I use one of each. I set the camera to use the grip first, when that runs down I charge it, then put it in the camera and put the camera battery in the grip. So far a good system, but having only shot a couple of thousand frames I can't really say which one is better - I''ve only changed the batteries once or twice since getting the camera. Once I got the grip I've been shooting pretty much constantly and just had to change the battery yesterday.

It's good that they're replacing your Impact, it shouldn't poop out so fast!
