What lens are you using????? SOOOOOOOO Sharp! (I see you are using a K5 II on the eagle shot at 500mm....)
My long lens (and most used birding lens) is the Sigma 150-500. but I also use the Super Tak 200mm (bayonet)

the smc PENTAX-FA MACRO 100mm F3.5

and even a Rokinon 8mm fisheye

I have the SuperTak 200mm - need to try that out for birding. Not sure how you got that shot with your 100mm macro! Great stuff. Thanks for the info.

It just takes a lot of patience. The birds get used to me standing close to the feeders. I used to have a scrub jay that would perch on my knee and screech at me until I gave it a peanut.

You're right, it's turrable, just awful to carry around a DA300 in the field.

He was definitely upset that I was using such sub-standard equipment. (K-3 & Sigma 150-500)

Pentax birds just fine. A few from my old K-3II DFA 150-450. All images are straight from the camera (unedited and not cropped).

Pentax has always been fine for birding, after all you don't need big glass

K10 and 200mm f3.5 preset Takumar

Or istD and FA28-105

Somewhere buried in the archives, and I cannot now remember the thread name, we discussed the shortest lens used for birding., I seem to recall someone baiting a grey jay with fries and using a fisheye

But there a long lens solutions that work pretty well too

*istD and SMC 300/4 with 1.7x AF adaptor, shot with flash, this is about 90%of the frame
