ist eyepiece removal and/or cleaning ?

Hi

My go everywhere ist DL was out in a light rain the other day (it was August in Oregon) for a few minutes, and a few drops must have slipped inside the eyepiece. The next day the condensation was very noticeable, and putting it in a sealed box with some silica gel has reduced it, but not completely. Having a big fuzzy spot in the middle of the view finder isn't so great.

So there are two screws on the either side of the eyepiece look like they must be for the top cover. Is there any way to get to the back side of the eyepiece lens?

Thanks.

Yes, but....

quite some time ago someone posted on a forum instructions, including photos, of removing the eyepiece easily for replacement. To be honest, it far exceeded what I considered easy or what I felt competent to do.
Obviously, I never tried it. I also discovered that my eyepiece wasn't glass. Plastic and it scratches easily.

Keep it warm and the rest of the condensation should evaporate, you might want to leave the camera with the lens off also so that that moisture has somewhere to go.

The top must be removed in order to extract the outer plastic eyepiece which is easily scratched. If you went far enough to extract it safely, you might as well buy a new eyepiece from Pentax as well. However, I believe the DL & D/DS are different and have different eyepiece assemblies. The link above is for the D/DS.

In the meantime, seal the camera in a plastic bag with silica gel for a week and hopefully the fog will disappear by itself.
