Flash for K10D

I need to purchase a Flash for my K10D. I do not know much about photography but I am on a fast track to learn since I got my camera a few weeks ago. I would like to purchase the Pentax 540 but It is not in stock anywhere. Will the Sigma EF500 DG work just as good? If not any suggestions would be helpful. I want to buy the right equipment so I do not have to upgrade later.

Thanks

A couple of days ago I started a thread in the Accessories forum (where this question may perhaps belong) on more or less the same topic. I recommend that you look at the answers I got; I think they will answer your question.

The thread is titled "flash for the K100D: what should I look for?" Click here to go right to it.

I would like to get the Pentax 540 but nobody has them in stock. I can get a Sigma EF500DG. Has anyone purchased this flash for their K10D?

Thanks

xecutech,

I live in Lebanon and work in Portland.

I have checked everywhere. No one has them in stock and they have no Idea when they will.

Let me know if you find a source!

Thanks

I have one and in my own experence it hasn't been a great one. right now it is in getting checked/serviced.
seems that the flash wasn't about to adjust the output according to the zoom of the lens I have.
It worked well on my wife's K100 but then again her zoom did not go out as far, so it might not have been as noticeable.
It was up to 2 stops underexposed at 70mm compared to 17mm

this is just my own experence and I expect it to work well when it returns

cheers

randy

Yes. Make sure you get the Sigma EF500 DG Super. Ask the store, where you buy it, if it has been rechipped for the Pentax K series (Anything they've received in the last couple of months probably will be OK from the factory.)

I am using the Sigma EF 500 DG Super on my K10D, and have no complaints. When I purchased the K10D I had to send it in to be rechipped, and it took a total of 5 days from the time I shipped it until they returned it. Its an excellent flash, but as of now, you would not be able to use the built in flash as a wireless trigger for it.

I've been using a Sigma EF430-ST and there have been no probs whatsoever. I've used this flash on a MZ50, istDS and now the K10D. Functionality has been excellent producing great results on all 3 cameras. They haven't been re-chipped or anything of the sort. You can pick them up on ebay readily.

If it works for me it may work for you.
