You outsiders with your newfangled technology. Around here we make our images with a pencil and paper. . . or hammer and chisel on pure granite if you want to be properly authentic.

So, the question is, have you done the same (traveled the s, and how did it turn out?
To answer your question, please review this collection of K-1 and K-1 mII images for my answer, as every single image was taken with a prime lens.

If I had to travel with just one lens, and it was for outdoors stuff, I would take the 18mm Zeiss Milvus. It is quite light too. The quality is amazing.

The last time I was in Granada, my kit was a Kx, DA15, DA 21, DA 40 and DA 70–very compact and excellent quality. The whole kit can go in a waist pack. That was a while back, and a few more megapixels wouldn’t hurt. I used a similar kit a few years later in Romania with a K5 II.

Well, I did it. I just returned from Cadiz where I was relying on my 21mm, 35mm and 70mm. I used the 70mm when I was up a tower, 21mm inside a cathedral and at all other times my 35mm limited. One day I completely forgot to take out my bag containing the 70 & the 21 and I found it liberating. The 35mm is spectacularly sharp so you have plenty of cropping options. Over all I took more than 500 pictures. I think I missed my zooms once. I had my doubts but it was a great success

About all I travel with is primes.
Here's what's in my bag(s)
Bag 1:
17mm fisheye Takumar
A20/2.8
FA24/2
FA31LTD
D FA* 50/1.4
FA77 LTD or A*85/1.4 (depends on my mood when I'm packing)
D FA 100/2.8 macro
A 135/2.8 or M150/3.5 (mood dependant again)
M200/4

Bag 2:
FA*200/4 Macro
F* 300/4.5
A400/5.6
A*600/5.6

I carry a smaller Domke bag for splitting off equipment for hikes, and I also make use of my Rottweiler who very happily carries a doggie backpack with extra lenses.
Wow - thats some kit!
I don't think I could hack carrying it around though as I do quite a bit of walking with gear.

Like the poster you replied to, Get a rottweiler and a doggie rucksack. If I tried that with my springer I would spend all my time trying to recover my kit from the river

I would love to, but my widest prime (on APS-C) is 24mm so the DA 16-45mm always ends up going. But it's not a heavy lens. The Tamrorn 70-300 or the SMC-A 70-210 sometimes end up going to, but now that I acquired the excellent and small SMC-M 100 2.8, I think the tele zooms can stay home.

I'm thinking about getting a DA 21 and with that on the next trip I'd be taking with me the 21, 30, 50 and 100 and I think that would be a nice set (in full frame terms 32, 45, 75 and 150). The 30 would probably be default (that one is a Sigma Art series). But I'm not sure the 21 would be wide enough for indoor shots especially, there's always a use for 16mm on my DA 16-45... and I can't get both a 15 and a 21 anytime soon I think...

If 21mm isn't wide enough you have to have a 15mm LTD, too. And if that doesn't cut it, there's always an 8mm fisheye!

The post you just replied to says I can't swing for both lenses in a while I would love to have them, no question about it.

But it will all be alright when I get my DA*11-18 from the forum giveaways, except that I'll be using that zoom instead of a prime

I don't know what your budget is, but there's a Rokinon 8mm fisheye on KEH right now for $120, and you can usually find the non-HD version of the 15MM LTD in excellent condition for under $300.

But good luck on the 11-18!

Within now and Christmas, I *might* have the budget for the DA 21, and that is it.

If I liked fisheyes I'd probably be all over that Rokinon 8mm! Someone who likes fisheyes should grab it immediately!

I've never done travelling with primes even during the film days. I wanted to slowly build up my arsenal but there seem to be very few WR rated prime.lenses for APSC. Maybe in the future I'll be able to do this.

That's an obvious hole in the Pentax lineup. A small, WR body like the KP is crying out for something like a DA 28mm f/2.8 WR. No, the 20-40 doesn't count. It's nice but three or four times the size of the 21 or 40.

Ugh, I may have been slightly mistaken. KEH now lists a 8mm fisheye in Canon mount for $119, but K Mount is out of stock.

Anyway, I'll be waiting for the upgrades of the APSC primes. I hope they'll come soon
