Let’s Guess the name of new gear in the future?

1:I think it will be named to KZ922? Once appeared in adorama... well.

2: K-2, Ricoh said it will be a new future and beginning of Pentax, so will they start with a “even number”?
A full frame flagship as
K-1, so an APS-C flagship as K-2? Sounds reasonable.

3:K-9, well trained dog in warfare... just cool name

4: K-3 III, as traditional...

5:K-0, Start with new beginning

They used to have even numbers for camera models. K-10, K-20, K-500 etc.

I'm a little curious where they go from where they are now as far as model naming/numbering. My hope is there's a K-02, like a modern K-01 but styled for adults with features liberally borrowed from Fuji's digital APS-C rangefinders.

Beginning in 2020 I think the words Asahi and Optical will be somewhere on new gear.

So people will go from, "Pentax! I didn't know they still made cameras!" to "Asahi? Is that some cheap Chinese Canon knock-off?"

Why not change the letter from K to something else, like L or M? An L-x or M-e would be cool.

Next full frame LX II? K3 II sequel (which is not a sequel) go with the MZ naming MZ II or something like it. Otherwise I think they have run out of numbers. Once you get to K-1 you aren't going to go up and K2 is a mountain in Nepal, anyway.

Maybe they released the K-1ii so quickly after the K-1 as to have a series of iii's releases all at once?

K-1 (iii) - full frame
K-3 (iii) - flagship apsc
K-S (iii) - entry level apsc (K-S1, K-S2, K-S3)

maybe even a 645 iii (third digital offering; D, Z, iii)

I always thought Contax had the coolest names for their cameras at one time.

With Minolta always tripping over themselves trying to put the number 7 into their nomenclature (XE-7, XG-7, X-700, X-7a, 7000, 7000i, 700si etc. etc), and everyone else trying for some techie combination of letter and numbers, I rather admired Contax for their classy sounding 137MA, 139, 159, 167 - then they had the Aria, which sounded just like some German company would name their mid-1950's rangefinder or something.

I do agree with the above posters that there's something lacking in today's model designations. I mean, how long a product marketing meeting was needed at Canon for them to decide to follow Nikon's D1 with their 1D? Sheesh?

Then again, Japanese companies don't always get it right, do they (and Pentax, we're looking at you). It must have seemed like a great idea to badge Pentaxes with *ist, after Canon had such success with their EOS. Bad, bad, idea guys. And yet, somehow, a large corporation was talked into thinking it was a great name for the ages to come.

I suppose it's preferable to keep present model names alive, and just keep tacking "II, III, IV" onto them, or adding letters here and there. Could we end up with a K-1v, or something like that someday? Better that than *ist

645A, a replacement for the 645Z, which seems ripe for an update?

The agreement between Hoya and the users of the Pentax camera brand name (IOW Ricoh) to jointly use and promote “Pentax” expires in November. I note no new camera has been released under the Pentax brand in quite some time, but we expect some new cameras from Ricoh Imaging in 2020.

Just sayin’

I think there's a lot of room for 2-letter camera names, like the KP.

With the Ricoh THETA already out there, why not go from K to KAPPA or maybe PI ? ALPHA is unfortunately already taken ...
