K3 Eye cup replacement

Hi there,

I found the original eye cup came with the K3 very fragile, the rubber broke very soon after few months of use, this also happened on my K5 which used the same design, so I ordered some after market bowl shape ones that has a glass on it, but that type is not reliable, the rubber bowl keeps loosen and lost, so what is your suggestion for the eye cup replacement there are few different made in the market ?

It magnifies a bit and makes it easier to see.

Yes, even with glasses. It is the first thing I get when I buy a pentax body.

Is the rubber sturdier stuff and more durable than on the regular cup?

Same here with the original equipment cup on my K-3. It acts and looks like new, even after 5 1/2 years. Granted, I don't live in Hong Kong where temperature, humidity, and air quality challenges may be a factor.

I just received the eyecup ship from Japan, first thing I notice is the viewing window is very small, much smaller than any other eyecup I've used, to make viewing with my glasses on little tricky, I can still see the whole view with status display when peeking around, the eyecup is tight fit on the camera so I don't need to worry about it get lose and lost unnoticed. The rubber padding is soft just like the original eyecup, I imagine it will break like original after a year or so regular use, there is nothing to do with the humidity the material is not particularly strong, I've no complaint, and I can not get anything better than this.

Same problem, and wearing glasses. Tokyo weather is hot humid in summer. It break in less than a year. I removed it for good. The hard plastic doesn't seem to make a scratch on my glasses.

Yeah, mine's about half-broken now. I think for me it's the tendency to swing a bit on the sling strap.

This is the eyecup I've had on my K3 since I bought the K3. Absolutely love it; definitely not fragile. Wouldn't be without it!

Just bought and fitted one to my K20. With 'normal' distance glasses, not all the display is easily visible, but I have some glasses with smaller round frames (John Lennon type) for use with bins and scope for birding, and using those all is visible.
