Nope.

And nope.

I still have every camera I ever bought, even from the days of film.

Every time I think about selling older gear I get distracted and then forget about doing it.

Oh, and the last APSC camera I bought was the K5IIs. I have since acquired the K-1, and rarely even think about my APSC gear. Mostly it all sits in the cabinet with my film gear, eagerly waiting for me to stop, fondle it, use it . . . . . .

So, nope.

I will not buy the next generation APSC camera.

And chances are I may never sell my existing APSC cameras.

Although Mrs. Racer 2.0 would be delighted if I did.

Ditto except that I swapped the DA35/2.4 on my DS for the DA40 a few days ago.

I'd assume the new APS-C flagship would be priced somewhat above the current KP prices, which gets very close to discounted K1-II territory. In which case I'd have to have a really good think about whether to go APS-C or FF.

The trouble with going ff though is that you then need the glass to go with it, whereas assuming you are apsc, you already have the lenses

Unless that is, like me, you have a big box of vintage beauties

I might sell everything sooner... It all depends how the new body performs. It's move on or stay with Pentax for me. If the AF is still behind the competition it's goodbye from me.

Not a big box - but I have a few to be going on with

FA 28 2.8
FA 31 1,8 Ltd
FA 50 1.7
FA 77 1.8 Ltd

plus a few M and A lenses and one Takumar

I’m not tempted to go Film Format in digital; for my digital photography I value the compactness of APS-c, and the quality of my lenses of choice for that format. Having given my K-5 to my son, I don’t now have it as back-up, so if I do get the new K (which I well might!) then my trusty K-3II will serve that function.

I have some great Film Format lenses such as K50/1.2, A50/1.4, A28/2.8, M40/2.8, A70-210/4 which do get used on the format for which they were designed - mainly these days on a mid-70s K2.

All APS-C K-mount lenses fit on the K-1II and only some vignette badly. There is a crop setting for that.

Yeah, but doesn't the crop mode reduce quality to k5 level? (Which is still pretty damn good)

In theory, perhaps. In reality, the crop images are better than expected.

If the trade in for my two K-3’s is decent i might swap the for the new ones. I am “collecting” some extra funds fro this trade. But all depends on prices. If the are between 1000-1200 it might be possible.

Obviously there is no necessity whatsoever, i am really happy with my K-3’s.

I'd like to get a new body if it's a major upgrade from the K3II. Otherwise, getting a FF body would make more sense.
In defense of the K5 when I mount the DA300 on it as my second body in the field it produces very nice images. The rendering from the 16MP sensor is very pleasing. Plus, the K5 is a tank, it's put up with a lot of abuse. That's a high bar to cross.

If anything, I'd check with my various nieces and nephews (and grand status kids) to see if they'd be interested and actually use it. I'd need to pick a couple lenses to go with it. The K5 doesn't sell for a lot so I'd rather give it if it will be used.

No, I have two bodies (k30 and K70) that allow me to do everything I need. Also first I have to buy a 31 limited!

That is a very fine set of primes. I have them all except the FA 31mm LTD. If you should get the FA 43mm LTD, its screw-on lens hood will do fine when used on the FA 28mm f/2.8 lens with an APS-C body, since both take the same size filter threads. The FOV will be about the same as the FA 43mm on a FF body, it is small and lightweight, so you will get a shooting experience used with APS-C that is similar to the FA 43mm on a FF camera.

It is these lenses and a couple of others that nudge me towards a FF body. I would use my FA 43mm LTD and FA 35mm f/2 as I have with film, which is more than I do on APS-C. Same is true with some FF zoom lenses I have.

What I mean by that is that you think: It's this many pixels, but then it seems so much better than you'd think for that many pixels.

Have a look at these images from the K-1:

Original un-cropped image:

Cropped:

Cropped more:

Cropped pixel peeping silly:
