Do you use Live View or Viewfinder

I seem to only use the Live View now all of the time, but after watching a well known seasoned photographer mostly use the Viewfinder I wondered why. He did use the Live View part of the time though and seemed enthusiastic about it, so was wondering what others might think about it?

I use the viewfinder about 80% of the time handheld. On tripod it’s about 50:50. For macro it’s almost 100% LV.

With age, having to hold the camera well away from my face to be able to focus on it and see what I'm doing with LiveView means I only ever use it on a tripod to focus a long manual lens with focus-peaking on my K-70. Almost everything else is done through the viewfinder, though there has been the odd occasion with a low-level macro shot when I haven't had my right-angle finder to hand that the tilting screen on my K-70 has made life a lot easier ... another aspect of age is that crawling through the undergrowth to get the shot only seems like a good idea 'till you have to stand up again

I'll admit, LiveView works quite well with a "normal" autofocus kit-lens, provided there's no bright light reflections to prevent you seeing what you're trying to picture, but, for me, in the classic "sun over the shoulder" snapshot scenario, I just can't see the screen!

K-1 user here. Viewfinder for everything except astro and wide aperture stills where focus is super critical.

I use both as the situation warrants.

This is more my style too. I find myself using LV mainly when I'm trying to get high or low shots handheld where I can't physically get my eye to the VF. Not the best tactic, but happens a lot while traveling.

K1 here. Carrying the camera almost 100% OVF. On a tripod mostly LV for static scenes

Also, I find I like being "inside" the shot more with the VF after eyeballing the composition.

Mostly the viewfinder, which is part of why I have a DSLR. I prefer the optical image, and it's steadier to hold the camera solidly against your noggin versus holding at arms length, and unlike some, when I'm on a tripod, I'm likely to be using my DFA 150-450 chasing a bird versus a slow shutter speed or stationary subject etc.

If I'm handholding the camera then it's almost always through the viewfinder. I prefer the genuinely 'live' view of the viewfinder vs the simulated,
digitized LV. I also find it easier to frame through viewfinder, partly because of the 'blackout' effect you get looking through eye piece, partly because
the frame isn't cluttered with extraneous information around the borders(*). However, most of my dedicated camera use over the past two years has
been in the studio and on a tripod, where I use LV almost exclusively.

* - Yes, this information can be turned off but then it just has to be turned on again. A quicker way to turn the overlay information on/off would be
nice.

Both. Landscape on tripod live view. Odd angle macro live view. Handheld long or short lenses viewfinder.

I do almost the same, but handheld I use the viewfinder 95% of the time.

Viewfinder exclusively hand-held at eye level with the K-3II, but LV at low level and when on a tripod.
