That thing is a screw which should pop up when the cam is set to AF.

Maybe it's stuck somehow...[do it at your own risk] take a pen tip and wiggle it around? There should definitely be "clicks" when you switch focusing modes.
does it pop up or stay there?. the top one is still missing.

any way I am ready to take the risk.
the worst case I return it. the best case I use it.

I could not see a good K10d (working). then that will give some rough idea what are all missing????

The screw should look like the 2nd pic (I mean, physically identical...they're the same part). In the 2nd pic, the pin is in AF mode and sticks up. In MF mode, the pin retracts into the mount.

an update.
I just removed the five screws and removed the ring and the small inner ring too.

what happened was it was stuck at MF position inside. I used a small screw driver (1.0 phillips???) to push it up and there you go the auto focus pin poped up.

the only issue is, if I turn to MF that some how gets stuck. the release is not moving up when I change to AF.C or AF.S.

for time being I will stick to AF mode only. took couple of pictures and it works.

I really do not know when pentax will improve their system for low light.

now I need the pentax gurus to help me explore my camera more. is there a thread that talks about more details/exploration of K10D?

Thanks.

I do not know it has FF/BF problem. I may check.
some of the pictures with istDL are better at 6MP than with this K10D. so I may have to optimize my K10D.

Thank u folks.

Just a thought , but could the drive be slightly bent as the result of being caught on on a lens during removal?

no.
that is working on a spring like mechanism. there is a small plastics thingy that pushes the lever and the contact goes down. when you move from the MF mode to AF mode the plastic thingy should move up and release the AF coupler. but unfortunately the upward movement is not working.

Hi,
Mine works fine but it makes a spring like click when moving back from MF to AF-C. I wish the detents for these positions were slightly more positive.
