Pentax K1 the modern day equivalent to LX ?

A question that has occasionally passed through my mind during the last few years is the Pentax K1 the modern day equivalent to LX ?

I have a K1, great camera, rugged, durable (I hope ) and although I've never had the Pentax LX, I have handled/used them back in the '80's and '90's.

In my opinion, both are great camera bodies...but my question is...is the K1 the modern day LX ?

What is your view ?

Maybe, but its almost impossible to predict. I mean what if they release a K-1 Super" that outdoes it in every way?

That said in terms of ergonomics and ruggedness, its possible the K-1 might be hard to beat and from that point may be looked back as the Digital LX. Who knows?

The LX had primacy based on features and build relative to other Pentax 35mm film SLRs. The K-1 has primacy based on lack of any points for comparison with other Pentax cameras. The analogous product might be the *ist D.

I think it’s more like the K2DMD...

It doesn’t share the focus on compact size characteristic of the LX...

It’s a big, beefy thing, with solid capabilities for its era, so that’s not meant to detract in any way.

The major weakness of the K1 is the top cover. I've dropped the camera twice and crushed the top plastic cover. That would not have happened with an LX. I also have an LX.

Big and beefy it may be, but I think it was touted as being the most compact full frame DSLR? After all the K-1 is only slightly bigger than the K20D.

It feels a lot more substantial than my K10, and as much as that was an awesome machine, it’s still big next to a LX...

But maybe K1 capabilities in a K10 package would be closer...

Not quite... the LX had both changeable focus screens and viewfinders, so you could really get 'em to work the way you needed 'em to.

Plus a maintained mechanical functionality without batteries, K1's knackered without those...

It's not quite the same, but the multidirectional LCD screen, can substitute for interchangeable view finders. For one thing I no longer get backache from astro photography

I'd say, based on size and feel in the hand, the KP is a better descendant of the LX (one of which I still own).

I think this is probably closer. I don't have a KP, but I do have a K1 and I shot with an LX for many years before going digital. For me, the LX was a very elegant camera. Not too big, not too small...but just right. It always felt like it was made to be used with compact prime lenses, whereas my K1 (and my K10D before it) feel more balanced with bigger zooms. That's not a bad thing, btw. Just different.
