K10D shutter life

Hi. I read in the net that the cameras life is the same than its shutter life. For example, 50000 shots for Nikon d50. Do you know whatīs the expected shutter life of the K10D? I read that is about 100000 shots

You are correct. Pentax DSLR shutters are rated for 100,000 cycles. That means at least 10 years of 10 thousand pics per year. Or 20 years of 5 thousand pics per year, or 40 years of........... nevemind.

Of course, shutter assembly can always be replaced.

Don't forget that the 100,000 cycles rating is not a guarantee. It is Mean Time until Failure (MTF - but not to be confused with Modular Transfer Function for lenses). that means that, on average, you can expect 100,000 cycles out of the shutter, but yours might fail earlier or last three times as long.

You used the suspicious smily but 100000 is really a lot. I'm somewhere around 15000 shots in 10 months on my K10D and lots of those were tests, etc.

If you use up the shutter then you are really enthusiastic and you'll deserve a new body

Roughly how much would such a replacement cost?
Anyone have this done?

Thatīs the question, wildman. I read to reply the shutter is very expensive. It doesnīt worth while. Itīs better to buy a new body. So shutter life is camera life. And 100000 is a big number. But i do a lot of sports photos. For example, yesterday about 130 in half an hour on surfers. Iīll burn my K10D in a few years and iīm so in love with her!!!

I got my K10D with 13 000. I got 2000-4000 in one month. Previous one was kind of busy, something around 400 clicks.

I recently added 1,500 shutter clicks in one night, but that was an intense evening that rarely ever comes up—a dance performance. I usually average 10,000 a year, so my K10D has quite a few years in it left

By the time our shutters go out you can probably pick up a lightly used K10D for dirt cheap. The ad will probably read "Ten year old K10D, lightly used by my father when my little sister was born. Has about 5k clicks, I don't use it because my cel phone is 25mp and in the future, us kids are lazy". LOL.
