Battery/AC adaptor question

Just considering my options ... I see the AC-167 adaptor for the KP plugs straight into the camera, but the AC-168 for the K-70 includes a "dummy battery". My question is, will the AC-168, when unplugged from the "dummy battery", fit the KP or are they totally different devices?

this appears to be the adapter for the K P

QuoteQuote:
AC adapter for the Pentax KP DSLR. It comes with a region specific power cable. This can be indicated by a suffix to the part number such as in K-AC167E for Europe.

K-AC167 consists of two parts: A power brick with cable and plug that fits the camera's DC port, and the region specific power cable.

and for the K 70

K-AC168 consists of three parts: A DC coupler, that takes the place of the battery, a power brick, and the region specific power cable.

My "dummy battery" would appear to translate into Pentax-speak as "DC coupler".

To re-phrase my question, is the "Power brick" in each example the same (are they interchangeable) or is the connector from the "power brick" to the "DC coupler" in the case of the AC-168 different to the connector from the "power brick" to the camera in the case of the AC-167?

If I can buy an AC-168 and potentially use it on both cameras it would be rather more attractive

The KP and K-70 use the same battery, D-LI109. you can use the same DC-coupler for both the K-70 and KP, you can buy it very cheap on eBay: Lovoski Battery D-LI109 Peplacement AC Power DC Coupler D-DC128 for Pentax | eBay

I have one for my K-70, combine it with a 2 cell (7,4V) 8000mAh LiPo battery - perfect for astrophotography:

Is the "dummy battery" the same as the business end of our Pentax K-x's K-AC84U? It's shaped something like the AA batteries that the camera would normally take.

This "dummy" will be shaped like the D-Li109 ... unlikely to be interchangeable

FWIW, it's practically impossible to find an AC-167 for your KP. Luckily, the AC-132 fits the KP and can be used with your K-5 too. I bought the unbranded version for $20 and it works great with my KP.

Thanks, but I want an adaptor for my K-70 and my KP ... the K-5, with it's larger batteries, lasts almost forever anyway, and I've got a battery grip for it as well, so that's not a problem.

My original question still stands :- will the "power brick", ac/dc adaptor, call it what you will, from the K-70 AC-168 plug directly into my KP?

Thanks but what "power brick", ac/dc adaptor call it what you will do I need to work in conjunction with this device and will it also power my KP?

Photos of the power brick for the K-70 and KP as well as illustrations in the manuals show the same Hirose flat connector that is used on many Pentax bodies. The K-30/50/70 and KP all use the same D-LI109 battery. The D-DC128 battery adapter module is used by the K-30/50/70/S1/S2.

Odds are the K-AC168 kit is just the K-AC167 + the D-DC128

D-DC128 module:

K-AC128 (K-30/50/S1/S2):

K-AC168 (K-70):

K-AC167 (KP):

It would not surprise me if the power bricks in the last two photos are the same unit.

Thanks for your observations.

I've done a bit more homework and found this listing from Bristol Cameras https://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-pentax-k-ac168e-ac-mains-adapter-kit.htm which confirms the AC168 to be appropriate for the K-70, KP and K-5 (whoopee!) so I'll probably be ordering one of those

I was speaking more of the concept of the dummy battery than the actual implementation; the K-x definitely relies on a different battery form factor than my K-5, for example.
