I have a K10D borrowed semi-permanently from a mate who no longer shoots Pentax. I have used it for two SDM conversions - on a DA* 16-50 some years back and more recently on a DA* 50-135.

So it definitely can be used.

While my 16-50 started to fail few years back I bought the K3, I also had the K5 during such time, I compared both with the lens and found that, the lens reluctant to focus on the K5 but completely dead on the K3, I repeated the test and got the same result, so I suspected the K3 produced lower drive current to the SDM than the K5, or the K3 has more sensitive protection settings.
