I admire people that can paint that precisely, straight or curved. I'm a leftie myself (at least regarding writing/drawing/painting) and have never had a talent for "calligraphy" (or in my case, even writing easily readable letters and words).

There are some cuts in the video where he seems to be doing the little things necessary to make it look perfect, but the end result looks very nice.

He seems to be using some sort of weighted lever to stabilise his arm for those long movements. Still, it's super impressive how he angles the brush to finish those lines that taper off into points.

It's know as a Mahl Stick. Traditionally used by artists and sign painters is usually a 1 meter stick with a ball pad on one end.

What is a Painter's Mahl Stick?

If you've ever seen a movie from 30s-50s where someone is painting the name and title on an office door (usually a newspaper office - "Meet John Doe" comes to mind) the painter is almost always using a Mahl Stick.

Besides steadying the hand it also prevents you from inadvertently touching and smearing the artwork below.

I used to work with a guy who'd been a sign painter for many years. He could pull a line like nobody's business, it was impressive to watch. It's a lost art these days.

Probably because it's cheaper to get it printed these days. Kind of a shame
