Well there was something that I had seen before, I think it was a YouTube video, that lead me to believe that they aren't have the celebration during the "100th" but during the "101st." So it might be better to wait 25 more days (that can't be too difficult) and see what happens during 2020 instead of rushing to judgement just because the typical period in which most Western cultures celebrate anniversaries has passed. They, at Ricoh or Pentax may instead celebrate the 100th anniversary after the 100th year has finished.

Whelp, if Pentax won't do anything I guess it's up to us. Let's reverse engineer some cameras, bang out some firmware code, open source the darned things, and build our own K-new and truckload o' lenses.

Who's with me!?!?

I predict none of the current camera companies will be around in 100 years, I doubt we can comprehend the technology that will be available then

I'm in.

I'm a (retired) engineer, I know how to solder, I can operate screwdrivers and wrenches, and I have experience reviewing requirements documents. I don't have any experience with 3D printing, but I'm pretty good with maple, walnut, and oak. Would any of that be useful in the endeavour?

c.a.m. You get to do the wooden grip. Task 1 down.

About the requirements, any chance we could agree on those?

Go back to your really old gear... that stuff in the closet, take it out and use it abit... do not use your newest gear. Do this, then return to newest gear you have. Not Guaranteed to solve your Pentax frustrations but you might enjoy what you have a tad more in the meanwhile.

I guess it depends on what you think are your requirements (or your 'needs' and 'wants') for new gear. If you have any gaps, then perhaps one of the other brands could fill them.

For example, my son recently acquired a Fuji X-T3, because he will be shooting video 80% of the time and stills 20%. I had the opportunity to play with the camera for a week before he picked it up at our home, and I was impressed with some (but not all) of its features and performance. He had decided on the X-T3 before asking me for my opinion; I didn't recommend Pentax because there are better options for his needs.

Next year*. Wait for them to debut the new camera in California on The 101.

Shoot more. Read more. Improve. Push the limits. Learn to design images. Learn to draw and paint. Ugrade post-proecssing skills. Learn to see.

Plenty to do.

If you're not using the gear you have why do you want new gear?
