I have a feeling that I will wind up with a K2000 simply because it is so small and any of the flaws mentioned I will most likely not be worried about now. Because I am only going to be using the DA limited pancakes I am not worried about the lack of DOF preview or other features. I just need a nice compact body with nice image output.

Does anyone have a guess at what the cost will drop to in the near future? I really hope that the price does not remain at $700 for the K2000. Or at least hopefully it will have a body only sale eventually?

It's almost impossible to predict if the will break up the kit for the K2000 and just sell the body alone. I suspect the street price would be $400-449.00 if thy do.

I still think the K100D or Super is the right choice. I have the K110D version that is the same but no SR. It's a very good camera and should suit you needs more than well enough. For $300 you get a fine camera with excellent picture quality, good AF speed and very good higher ISO ability. Just seems the logical choice for a good used camera.

Is the size of the K100D around the same as the D50? If so thats not too bad. Should still be fairly compact.
Also it seems like it would have around the same performance as a D50 so it would be a fine purchase so long as I could find one in good condition for a good price

Sorry Cny, you wanted this poll, and the poll says K200, so you'll have to go with that.

If I were you I'd take a trip to a camera shop and hold these cameras in my hand and work the controls. It may be hard to find a K100 in a shop though.

Have a look here:

Pentax K100D Review: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review
Nikon D50 Review: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review
I've never handled the D50 so I can't say but I think the K100D is smaller and the 2 are almost the same weight.

K100D:
Dimensions 129 x 93 x 70 mm (5.1 x 3.7 x 2.8 in)
Weight (no batt/lens) 565 g (1.2 lb)
Nikon D50:
Dimensions 133 x 102 x 76 mm (5.2 x 4.0 x 3.0 in)
Weight (no battery/lens) 540 g (1.2 lb)

lol the only thing stopping me from getting a K200D is the price versus eitehr the K2000 if it falls to a lower price or getting a used alternative.

Also thank you for the post informing me of the sizes. Very similar if not just a touch smaller. Hm.
Now comes a decision on whether I sell the trusty D50 or not.

I bet the K20D is weighing in the "other" category. If getting a new body, K20D or K200d is the only way to go IMHO. The K-M is light so that does give it strong consideration in a travel camera.

I was one of the ones who chose the K200, partly because I have one and I'm familar with it. It's not the lightest weight camera, but it sits nicely in between the K2000 and K20 in terms of features. I will have to admit, though, that the K2000 is darn cute though.

While I am sure the K20d has plenty of features, I am completely uniterested by it due to the size difference and weight between that and a K2000 or K100D/K200D. I am only going for travel and lightweight here. I already have my Nikon setup for using a full featured set up.

I understand that and I actually voted for the k200d, but the "other" category is getting a lot of votes only behind to the k200d and was merely speculating about the
K20D getting some love there.

Ha, yeah its understandable that some people would vote 20D, also some are voting for the istD(S) series as well.

i have a K100D and there are certain things that are kind of frustrating that i think have been fixed in the later series of cameras. most notably the Auto ISO being reset to 200 when EV is used and it seems that the AF has improved as well as the mirror is quieter.

It would seem like any problems that you listed with the K100D would not be an issue for me. I don't use auto iso and for travel, af shouldnt be as big of a problem for the most part.

if that doesn't bug you, then you should be fine with any Pentax body. with the K100D, you basically give up resolution and sealing.
maybe my experience may help you https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/33847-lessons-...-limiteds.html

So you found the 21mm to be a bit of a non useable lens?

What do you think of the 15mm Limited coming out? I was thinking of looking at the DA 15mm, 40mm, 70mm set up and trying that out.
