FF will un-crop your image so you'll have to move closer to fill the frame and will end up with less DOF.

However, the 100mm macro is still long enough for me. I use a LED ring light in continuous mode for Pixelshift.

With 36 MP you'll get more detail and more room for composition.

When you use the K-5, do you typically still have some room to move closer to the subject?

If not, then you could consider a longer lens or the KP.

My first thought is what others have said- you have to get closer with a FF setup than with APS-C to get the same framing, which is more likely to alarm small critters for one thing. Then there is less DOF, so less of the subject will be in focus unless you stop the lens down, in which case you might run into lighting problems necessitating an increase in ISO. If you back off enough to not alarm the little critter, you then could crop to frame as you wish, but then you lose pixels and would not likely have the pixel density of a 24mp APS-C setup.

The main advantage of a FF setup over the KP would be in having a wider angle of view for background behind the subject. It might be more of an advantage with a wider angle macro lens, and subjects that are not prone to being disturbed.

The KP is quite a substantial upgrade for IQ over your K-5. In fact, remarkably close to the K-1 II. It has a great capacity for out of camera results due to its exceptional processor. Just be sure to implement "Fine Sharpening" in the Custom Image menus. You would also save quite a bundle of money. The KP also takes the new electronic AF, which only a few lenses have so far. I too have the DFA 100mm f/2.8 WR macro lens. It is great with my KP.

I think like a lot of people here I use FF (K-1) for most of my photography but APS-C for macro and telephoto wildlife, to get the most reach out of the lenses. I skipped a coupe of generations, going from K-10D to K-3, so I don't have the pixel density conundrum, but IMHO, having APS-C AND FF definitely gives you the best of both world if you can afford to keep the K-5

The sensor in the K-1 ii has a little better low light performance, I think, so for the same noise level, you might be able to stop down a little more. In my limited macro work I have wanted more DOF.

if you prefer the field of view of your K-5 with the DFA 100 on your K-1, just buy the HD DA 1.4x Converter for your DFA 100. This combo works very good!

Does the teleconverter cover full frame? I thought it only covers APSC...

APSC. You'll get vignetting if you use it in full frame. I have not tried it with the 100mm Macro but have with the D FA 150-450.

I have both the K5 and K1 and the DFA100mm - I prefer using this lens on my K5 simply for better depth of field,
However you will find yourself using the K1 for most other subjects ie the DFA150-450 is superb for other wildlife,
