I am looking toi get a K1mkII - will this lens work?

smc PENTAX-DA★16-50mmF2.8ED AL[IF] SDM

I already have this lens for my K5
Along with the wr macro lens.

I am assuming the DA* won't work to full capacity with the K1

I don't think so. Have a look at this: Pentax K-1 Lens Compatibility Guide - Articles and Tips | PentaxForums.com

The 16-50mm is a crop lens. You'll want to replace it with the DFA 24-70mm, ideally.

The 100mm wr macro is a full frame lens, so you'd be fine there.

K-1's have a crop mode, it would work in that, but yes not properly at full 35mm mode.

My simple take on it is.... the 16-50 will work to it's full capacity....... and the K1 (whatever) will work functionally to it's full capacity but with APSC ball park resolution.

Of course it will still work. Just accept that you will need to crop the image in post, or try using 1x1 crop mode on the K1ii.

You can mount any K mount lens on a K-1 II. The DA lenses will typically require some amount of cropping in order to make them work. Some of the longer primes will be OK with a slight crop, some, like the DA *16-50 and wider primes will need basically a full APS-C crop.

You can choose to do that in post or just shoot in crop mode on the camera (or square mode if you like that better).

If you use it in crop mode on the K-1 II, you will end up with a 16 MP picture. In this aspect, it will be like your K5 - you'll have the same FOV and pixel density that you are used to. And just to be clear, in crop mode, you're taking the portion of the image circle of the lens that doesn't have vignetting, hence you end up with the 16 MP output and same FOV as using the lens on APS-C. Hope this makes sense.

Do you have the lens already, or are you considering getting one?
