K1II and K3II

I realize there have been many threads about the subject, but I'll ask anyway. I've decided to pass my K3 on to my daughter but I still have my K3ii which I enjoy. I have 5 lenses including the 150-450 zoom. The rest are APS-C.
So I'm toying with the idea of filling the void in my kit with another camera body but it would only make sense to get something that would offer something different than my k3ii. Do I have to do this? No. Can I wait? Yes. I have thought of looking for a used K1 or maybe a KP, however the KP has some drawbacks to the K3ii as I have been reading about it.
If I were to pursue a K-1 then I suppose I would have to buy lenes as well or will the APS-C lenses work? I understand that there may be a new APS-C in the future as well.
Is anyone else using two different formats? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I don't have a K-1, but I do know that the APS-C lenses will work on them, as I understand it you can put the camera in crop mode and it will do just that, or you can use them not in crop mode with vignetting.

The 100 macro is FF. The DA 50 is close to. The 55-300 vignettes badly in the corners but can be used with minor cropping. The 18-135 is not close.

I much prefer my K1 on the 150-450 then my K3. If I lost all my gear.... a K1, 150-450 and a 43 would be my first purchases.... I only recently sold my K3 as I wasn't using it..... also bought a KP thinking it is a bit smaller to use occasionally.... but... maybe that was a silly whim...

Based on this list if you grabbed a DFA 28-105 and maybe a prime ultra wide (like an Irix 15mm) you wouldn't really need much to equal where you are now. And you could use the existing 18-135 and 10-20 in crop mode in the meantime.

I find the 150-450 good for birding on the K3 when I need more reach than I get on the K1.

Something to consider: The K1 and K3ii share a common battery (as with the K3). That has made life much easier than when I had to juggle two types.

I haven't found it so.... my bush walks and subsequent shots can a lot of times be in not so good light.... under tree canopies, early morning or late in the day.... also... I like to look for more encompassing shots these days.... than bird on a stick stuff (of which one can almost never be close enough for)..... each to their own I guess. On lots of walks I'll end up with 1/2 landscapie images to birds or animals with the 150-450 though. Off course.... I'm not shooting for national geographic.... just for my enjoyment. I tried my KP recently again on it... but prefer the K1.

You have a very good assortment of quality lenses to suit many needs. The K-3 II is a very good camera, though having been surpassed by the latest technology. One has to ask where specifically does it fall short for the needs one has? Considering the lenses you have, and for whatever reason the KP does not appeal to you, the most logical course would be to wait until the K-3 II replacement appears, which has now probably been delayed by the pandemic. So have patience as you "suffer" with your K-3 II and set of fine lenses! I think when it comes, the new body will be worth the wait.

The K-1 in crop mode is only a 16mp. Your K-3 II is 24mp. If I were you I wait for the new APS-C which will probably include the newest technologies and surpass the K-1 variants technology used. I definitely will not buy a K-1 because the K-3 II is terrific camera. The main purpose is taking pictures and enjoying doing that. And most of the APS-C lenses are very very good. And new Ricoh/Pentax FF lenses are very very expensive. (that said: I had to conclude that most Ricoh/Pentax material is a lot more expensive in Europe than in the US.)

I don't have nor have I used a K 1 or K 1 II [ I'm scared to try them, what if I like them ],

but I think of them as being useful for different types of photography than a K 3 or K 3 II - landscape vs. action

as far as a KP, I haven't used mine much but the set up of the camera, to me, is different from my K 3 or K 3II which causes me some problems

I do not think of them as being useful for different types of photograhpy, because they do not differ that much. After all it is not as different as FF compared to mid-format. With mid-format I do think of different types of photography (weddings or modelling etc.) but APS-C and FF are in fact all purpose camera's, so to speak. And just with old film camera's like 6x7 and 6x4.5 more affordable for the general public. If you are fond of your K-3 II, stick with it and wait for the new Ricoh/Pentax or keep using your K-3 II till it falls apart. After all, it is all about the pictures you get and not about the tool you hold in your hand(s).

and having fun while doing so

[ to try to explain my post further, I have read that if you are into taking landscapes, the K 1 and K 1 II is the one for you, action not so much ]
