2 Amigos are in the Mail + 1

I finally completed the acquisition of the 3 Amigos, that is the Pentax 31 mm, 43 mm and 77 mm. This after I got my Tax return and COVID stimulus. This is my second copy of the 77 mm. The first one I had to hock when I ran into financial difficulties. This is my first copy of the 43 mm. The 31 mm I had since 2014. They will have to pry that lens out of my hands when I finally croak. I also threw the 15 mm f4 (old version) in there. Not one of them is brand new, but all are in good condition. The 15 mm should be arriving today, the others next week. By the time I get to the K1 it will be the year 2030 !

Three Princesses. "3 Amigos" is a reference to a mediocre comedy film that is far too crass to be applied to the lovely FA Limiteds.

and one could argue it isn't

the Princesses were developed for film slr camera bodies

the anticipated D FA limited is for digital camera bodies and slr bodies

all will work on ASP-C sensors and full frame sensors

what differences between the Princesses and the anticipated D FA - HD ? vs. SMC ? other " twists " are unknown I think ( aperture ring yes/no )

43mm was first, then the 77mm and then the 31mm

At least they are still building Limited lenses. I recently sent Pentax/Richo a request if they could build a 50-85 mm Limited zoom sort of like the 20-40 f2.8-4 which was a huge success.

Aperture ring will be the distinguishing factor between New and Classic FA Limiteds.

most detailed info I can find:

QuoteQuote:
D FA 21mm Limited ED DC WR
Pentax's premium Limited lens series has attained an almost legendary status: through compact lenses with non-traditional focal lengths, compact all-metal barrels, and distinctive image rendering, these lenses deliver something truly unique to Pentax.

Like other Limited lenses, the new D FA 21mm Limited will be available in both black and silver. Despite being a ultra-wide-angle full-frame lens, it remains compact and will be about the same size as the existing FA 31mm F1.8 Limited. What we like about this lens is that it bolsters the existing lineup of FA Limiteds rather than serving as a replacement.

Moreover, this will be the first Limited prime lens to include weather sealing as well as a silent DC motor. To see both of these features in a compact lens is no small feat!

When asked about the optical characteristics of the lens, Iwasaki said that it would deliver a true-to-life sense of depth (typical of Limited lenses) and that it has been designed with the quality of the final image in mind. The goal of these lenses is to deliver years, or even decades, of enjoyment.

The maximum aperture has not yet been announced, but based on the markings on the lens, it appears to be at or below F4. In traditional Limited fashion, we suspect that the final number may be a non-standard value, such as F3.6 for example.

The new 21mm Limited is slated for launch in 2021. We expect to see it late in the year, after the DA* 16-50mm.

It you want a candidate for the fourth Amigo, it would be the A50/1.2 "Special".

It was released in 2000 after the FA43 & FA77, but before the FA31. Only way to get it was with a LX 2000.

considering the mount, if there was one would the aperture ring allow it to be used on the older DSLR bodies or the older film SLR bodies ?

Lens Mount Variants-

Besides the mates fitting the K through KAF2 mount variants mentioned above, lenses can also be fitted with one of the following variants:
. . .

KAF4: This is a KAF3 mount without an aperture stop down lever. Lenses with the KAF4 mount will only work on camera bodies that support electronic aperture control (cameras from 2013 and newer, except for the K-500). . . .

I hope the new FF DFA 21mm LTD will be considerably faster than f/4!! My DA 20-40mm ZOOM lens is f/2.8 at 20mm and it is not a large lens at all.
