Files collection to enter Debug Mode

Salam Pentaxians,

Some times, and in certain conditions we need to make hardware or software modifications in our cameras, it’s a bit like rooting android phone or jailbreak an *phone
Here is a collection of required files to enter Debug Menu.

Available files are for following models : K5 / K01 / K5 II / K5 IIs / K30 / K50 / K500 / K3 / K3 II / KS1 / KS2 / KP / K1 / K1 II

Disclaimer : I am not responsible for any damage that may occur to your equipment. Continue at your own risk.

Steps to follow :
1- Dowload related file to your model
2- Unzip file
3- Put both develop and xxxxxxxx.xxx files into root of your SD card ( x = number)
4- Put SD card in camera (surely you will say ), for cameras with 02 positions put it in slot 1
5- Let card door open and power on camera.
6- A menu will appear showing Development Menu, number of pages will varie according to camera model.
There is a plenty of tests and informations,
If you want that menu appears each time you power on your camera without opening card door then select : Debug mode on <Yes> . Otherwise select <No>
7- To validate and leave debug menu press OK
8- Now you can close card door
9- It will take time to return to camera system ( less than 30 seconds)
10- In camera menu settings a new page will appear
11- You can disable Debug mode from that page or from first page of Development Menu
12- In some tests of fonctions of Debug Mode, the only way to leave pending operation or black screen is to power Off Camera

Main duties of Debug mode for commun man :
1- Additional range to ajust Autofocus
2- Change region code ( language)
3- Export and import data for used lens ( to activate screw drive autofocus with some SDM lenses)
4- See shutter count

Don’t try to update lens ROM if you are not an expert, you may brick your lens

UPDATE : As I tested files only on K30/K50/K3/K3 II , please confirm if it's working for other models

I for one would not download files from a member who had just joined. A very naive post Fayssal.

FWIW I did download one of the zip files, for the K-5. The zip contains two files, one called DEVELOP.MOD which is an empty file, the other is 00077430.505 which is a text file containing a single instruction, "[OPEN_DEBUG_MENU]" ... all perfectly harmless. As to whether they work or not and what can be achieved with them ... I feel the need for a little more instruction before proceeding further, however, this particular file contains nothing of any danger to a computer

Hi photogem,

Thank you for files.

First time I needed to enter K50 debug mode I searched for more than 4 hours to find its files in a german forum, so I decided to make it faster and easier for Pentax community.

Regards,
Fayssal

Hey cport, yeah I've just tried today. I have a Sigma 100-300mm f4 that I tried to calibrate but needed a bit more than -10 to nail focus.

I followed the steps above and it worked well. Make sure you're patient when you enable debug mode (wait 30 seconds after you close the SD card slot). It will then reset on its own. Once the debug mode is enabled, you can plug your old SD card in and start making photos. You don't have to keep the SD card used for enabling debug mode inside.

Cheers!

Just as an info:
Upgrading firmware not necessarily ends debug mode. My K-1 has been in debug mode for years and I applied several firmware updates to it. It still is in debug mode.
