Remove the button ... or the thumb.

Hi Sly

Maybe run all your cameras in 'M' mode, that way the thumb is too busy having to do the right things, its then too tired to be mischievous.

from time to time, my thumb has a mind of its own and changes the setting of my camera without my knowledge

so I set the camera for " natural " and start taking photos

as I do so, my thumb might choose " monochrome "

as I discover later

any way to set up the camera so my thumb can't screw me up ?
Your thumb must be very busy. It takes 9 clicks of the 4-way controller to get from Natural to Monochrome. It takes(at least) two clicks (one click to activate the Custom Setting Menu) (two clicks to select a "Picture Style" such as natural, bright, monochrome, etc.) It could be that after you select a Picture Style, you are not hitting the 'OK/Set' button so the camera reverses to the last Picture Style/finishing touch you used. I use to do that all the time....

here is the plain truth

my thumb is being corrupted by my wife's Japanese Chin [ who was corrupted by my wife's evil cat ]

the Chin is also trying to corrupt my new German Shepard puppy

" that's the truth "

With the KP you can lock and unlock the four-way controller. by assigning this function to a button C3 item 17 and choose type 1 or type 2, type 2 is FOUR-WAY CONTROLLER / OK / and MENU
Under BUTTON CUSTOMIZATION I assigned this function to FX1 button (Yellow padlock). Press FX1 and lock or unlock with the rear wheel

It is worth trying this out, good luck

You can dedicate a User mode on your top dial to lock down all the colours and other settings.
Then at least your index finger has to work as an accomplices to achieve the thumb's conniving goals
Perhaps?
This is what I do and it's the best solution IMO. I have user modes set for my most common scenarios with everything set just how I like for Action, Landscape, Manual glass, and Astro.
I also use the RAW format just in case (or RAW to one card and jpeg to another so I have a fallback if the jpeg is bad). The key to the user mode technique is turning the camera off between shooting sessions so it reverts to the preset when you power up. Or conversely if you have changed settings intentionally since the last power cycle, leave it powered on to preserve those changes.

Hey Allen, I have the same problem too. If I am not careful TAv mode can become a real adventure for me. Easy to spin those little wheels. I have yet to find a cure for it as I had the same issue going back to my K5 days.

Remember when we were at Artist Paint Pots in Yellowstone in 2018. I shot a whole series of the grey mud pots at the top of the trail and they turned out like the top photo. Fortunately I caught it before going much further. The K1 has an awesome dynamic range and I was able to save the photos in post processing. One of the reasons that I always shoot RAW.
