Help, my thumb has a mind of its own

from time to time, my thumb has a mind of its own and changes the setting of my camera without my knowledge

so I set the camera for " natural " and start taking photos

as I do so, my thumb might choose " monochrome "

as I discover later

any way to set up the camera so my thumb can't screw me up ?

any of them, the K 3, K 3 II or KP

the naughty thumb likes to hit the 4 way controller on the back without telling me

is there any way to lock in my selection and only allow a change if I ok it ?

Buy a K-1. It has a lockout button of sorts, just above and to the right of the 4-way controller. It switches the 4-way to VF focus area selection, which does a lot more damage than those never-never land modes that your thumb has been exploring. Of course, my thumb has been known to hit that button and then hit the 4-way when it (my thumb) gets bored

You can dedicate a User mode on your top dial to lock down all the colours and other settings.
Then at least your index finger has to work as an accomplices to achieve the thumb's conniving goals
Perhaps?

Are you using a hand strap that forces your hand to stay in the shooting/control position at all times?

No experience with the K3's, but the KP has two settings available to reduce this annoying "feature".

1: 'Custom' menu #3 - Setting 18 - 4-way controller settings. I've got mine set to "2". It does mean having to hold down the OK button for a couple of seconds to re-activate ISO settings, Drive Mode etc., but at least the camera can't change settings "by itself"!

2: See page 51 in the manual, "Disabling Operation Controls"

I use combinations of both, depending on circumstances, and have yet to find needing to "unlock" a setting to be more frustrating than having settings changing unintentionally.

Inevitably, YMMV - good luck
