this is where this older/smaller sensor fails against more current/larger sensor - ton of noise in the blue sky, even after running the image through NoNoiseAI....

I get this with my LX3 sometimes, but don't find it too objectionable. I'll use some light NR or "restoration" filter in post that work pretty well. Have you tried shooting RAW?

no, no RAW here - if I want that blue sky to show properly, I'll be sure to use another camera....
