You know me so well!

There's a part of me that really just wants to get the crappiest old manual focus 28-200mm from the 1980s that I can find, because getting decent results with lousy gear has always been a huge part of the fun for me. The sensible, intelligent, grown-up choice would definitely be to get the Pentax/Tamron 18-250mm though.

I need to think this through a bit more. Since I've put the split prism in the K100D I've remembered how important fully manual focus and exposure is to me, so whatever I get I won't be using autofocus.

Oh dear, I've got that one alluring letter and two tempting digits running through my mind again. M42. . . M42. . . M42. . .

aside from the m42 thing, if you were any closer geographically, I'd send this SMC A 70-210mm zoom that sits idle in my cabinet...

(edit)

on thinking about this a bit longer - why not one of the Tamron Adaptall zooms?

some of them are highly rated - I had one for awhile and it seemed quite competent (before I unloaded almost all my manual zooms)....

Funnily enough, I've got an Adaptall mount but no Adaptall lenses left to put on it at the moment. The plan is to get a Tamron 500mm catadioptric in a couple of months when we get to air show / boat race season. Since I've already got the mount, that gives me complete flexibility to get the lens with any other brand's mount on it -- or even no mount at all.

I saw a ridiculously cheap (£39) Tamron 18-200mm this morning and decided to snap that up as a way of finding out if a superzoom will suit me or not. I know it's not in the same league optically as the Pentax/Tamron 18-250mm, but if it turns out that using a superzoom works for me in principle then I can get the more expensive lens and sell this cheapo.

Going down this rabbit hole

Ok after hearing all about how wonderful the colors of the 10.1 megapixel ccd sensor are, I bit the bullet. Just picked up a brand new, yes brand new open box, k-2000 in white. Haven't got it in my hands yet but will post some pics when it gets here. Kit has two white lens as well! and yes I paid too much.

I was torn between the k-20, k-200d and the k-2000. All had pluses and minuses but the k-2000 is the newest and built like my k-x was so I figure I will most comfortable with that. ( I did try a k10d but the AF was way way off I missed the various image settings). No autofocus point indicator but as I shoot single point AF and recompose, I figure it will be fine. And it will not be my serious camera as I have others for that. This is to see what the fuss is about.

WOW! Ok, how does this lens compared to the Pentax DA 35mm Limited? It looks like a sure candidate for my S2 Pro collection.

thank you...

well - it's the same lens; Tokina's coatings rather than Pentax's, and you can see the differences in the external build, but inside is the same glass....

this is what I've got so far with it:
