M42. . . aside from the m42 thing, if you were any closer geographically, I'd send this SMC A 70-210mm zoom that sits idle in my cabinet... (edit) on thinking about this a bit longer - why not one of the Tamron Adaptall zooms? some of them are highly rated - I had one for awhile and it seemed quite competent (before I unloaded almost all my manual zooms).... Funnily enough, I've got an Adaptall mount but no Adaptall lenses left to put on it at the moment. The plan is to get a Tamron 500mm catadioptric in a couple of months when we get to air show / boat race season. Since I've already got the mount, that gives me complete flexibility to get the lens with any other brand's mount on it -- or even no mount at all. I saw a ridiculously cheap (£39) Tamron 18-200mm this morning and decided to snap that up as a way of finding out if a superzoom will suit me or not. I know it's not in the same league optically as the Pentax/Tamron 18-250mm, but if it turns out that using a superzoom works for me in principle then I can get the more expensive lens and sell this cheapo.  | |
