Our native flora does actually have great diversity and a good deal of subtlety, but it's more evident in the cooler months - autumn through to spring. It's getting to this time of year, about xmas, that I find myself starting to look for antarctic documentaries, and dramas set in Scandanavia or Canada, as we start getting regular stretches of 35 degree (c) or more maximums. Photos from the northern winter help - especially snow etc....

This year we are having an El Nino event, a periodic reversal of the usual trend of pacific air and moisture currents, and this means we will have a wetter and cooler summer according to our Bureau of Meteorology. Currently we have showers predicted up till Xmas day. I'll keep an eye out for bright blue sunny skies etc and post if I can get anywhere near decent photos of them. In the meantime I took this a month or more ago when I noticed this tree with a flush of bright spring flowers and new growth on a fine Saturday morning. Looking it up I found it was Queensland Brush Box. I wasn't going to post as it softens quickly from the centre of the frame - I took one of my old lenses, a Super Travernar 28mm f2.8 out for the morning with my K10, and must have left the aperture wide open;
