That looks like a hint of some swirly bokeh.

Yes, it's there - but I have yet to explore it's potential...

Marina evening colours, Nikon Coolpix S01.

Bad news: The 1/3" CCD sensor in this little camera collected some dust during the yachting week, seen as three darker spots in later shots. I'm thinking of buying a used Casio Exilim EX-Z150 (8.1 MPix, 1/2.5 CCD) in good condition for about $25 including a soft case and some accessories. I wonder if anybody here knows if it is an (at least) half-decent P&S camera or just a useless toy?

Sali - Day & Night Colours

@DeepThrob: Thanks for the opinion! I've finally found some samples and indeed the image quality looks significantly lower than S01. Casio makes good wristwatches but cameras probably aren't their best products. I'll probably wait for something else, clone/smudge retouching in the meanwhile.

Nikon Coolpix S01 before the sensor contamination.

I picked up a Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 a while back that I was quite impressed with, especially the build quality. See my mini review and some sample pics here -

First To 10 – The Classy Compact Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 – 35hunter

Some of the Exilim range do have a good reputation if you find the right ones.

New CCD on the way

Here is an interesting item. I made an eBay purchase of an original Sony Alpha 350 DSLR, 14.2 mp CCD sensor with a couple of zoom lenses, should be here by the end of the week. It is described as having been used only a few times for family gatherings. I thought it might be interesting to try out Sony's version of the CCD and maybe use a few of my Minolta lenses on it. This was one of Sony's early entries into the camera market before the company made the switch to mirrorless. I will be pleased to hear from anyone who has experience with this camera or its lenses.

My wife owned the Sony A300 (10 mpx CCD) for a few years, and was happy with it. Similar output as the K10D as I think they shared the same sensor. I got her a Minolta AF 50mm prime which was a very nice lens. It was a fine camera, but the viewfinder was like looking into a tunnel! Very small and dim. I'm not sure how the 14 mpx model compares, and it'll be interesting to see what you come up with!

I've been always intrigued by these 14MP CCD APS-C bodies from Sony, there's at least 4 of them I think (A350/380/390 and A290).

Minolta glass used to be pretty cheap but it might be more expensive than Pentax glass now, which is another reason I never pulled the trigger on one.

Let's see what you come up with.

Got my Rikenon P 50 1.4 out today, it never disappoints.

How about some gorgeous CCD reds??

Pinks can also be quite nice

But what I liked the best from my walk around the backyard was the Incredible Floating Leaf...
