That's an interesting thought. I never heard about that thinner color filter. Do you have some reading on that?
There's been some discussions about this here and in other forums... if you're bored, you can look at this one, for example... CCD and CMOS colour: Photographic Science and Technology Forum: Digital Photography Review

Some even claim that it's a foregone conclusion that it's just the filters and not the CCD vs CMOS technology that makes this difference in colors from older vs newer sensors, but I don't think it's that simple...

Is it possible that a Nikon D700 lacks that type of filter?
The colors straight out my Nikon are beautiful as well i must say

No, it's that the older filters gave more pleasing colors (I refrain from using accurate because a lot of times that is down to processing). To do that, the filters absorbed more of the light, before the light hit the sensor. The D700 is definitely part of the era.

But like I said, while some say "it's just the filters in front of the sensor", from what little I know, that's over-simplistic. There's a lot of factors including pixel size, sensor technology (CMOS, MOS, CCD), and even the placement of the sensor processors, reducing signal path (Pentax is supposedly amazing at this by the way, which explains why Pentax cameras test better than others that use the same sensors).

Trying out the wide end of this camera's zoom at 6.5mm (equiv. 39mm). I have yet to test it's full zoom at 65mm (equiv. 390mm). But for a 2007 era point-n-shoot camera I think it has pretty good lens and it's stabilized too.
