The CCD Sensor Cult. I mean Club...

Not too many people shoot them anymore, as no one's making them at this point... but the CCD sensor cameras have a loyal following (some would say obsession) from its fans (crazy? luddites?).

If you love the images you get from your CCD sensor camera, be it a tiny point and shoot or a giant sensor 645D or even a full medium format back, post here and wax poetic about the virtues of a technology that was replaced by a lower cost, video-friendly alternative (CMOS)...

Here's my K200D and DA* 16-50mm at 50mm, and my son going out to meet with some waves.

And here's the same combination with a 2.5second exposure. The CCD sensor is great for capturing luminance in tricky conditions, I find... in a way that seems similar to slide film.

Fine images there CR. the CCD sensor has a quality that I wish I could have in a K-1.
There could be a market just for that, the new R6 is only 20MP, no more would be needed. Just wishing

They say CCD stands for Charge-Coupled Device but maybe it should be Consummate Color Detector!

I wish for it too... the same pixel density of a K10D/K200D would give 24MP in a full frame camera. And the same pixel density on a 44x33cm gives the 40MP that the 645D has.

But 10MP is plenty to work with, I find. I'm stunned at the level of detail sometimes that I get with my K10D and K200D. They say 7-8MP (perhaps even 6?) is what the human eye can resolve when seeing an image as a whole (without pixel peeping).

I find that textures and color transitions are so much more detailed when looking at a CCD picture... perhaps it's as Photoptimist said, a Consummate Color Detector

K10D and DA 35 Limited:

But it's more than a color capturing device (CCD!)... it's also the ultimate tool for capturing black and white... at least for me!

This thread is very timely. I pulled out my old Nikon P5000 (1/1.8 CCD) last week and reacquainted myself with it. The only real downside to this little camera is no RAW output. Jpeg only.

I took these shots a couple of years ago wandering in a local park.

I was using my *ist DL2 only this afternoon. Every so often I feel the need to get away from the multiple options and capabilities of my 24mega-pixel marvels and think more about the composition rather than which feature I want/need to use
