What should/will be the kit lens for K-new?

Should it be the 16-85mm? Was that lens ever offered as a kit lens?

I don’t think the 18-55mm will do the new camera justice.

I'd guess the 18-135.

The 20-40 Limited is often seen on the KP in videos, and if I remember correctly, on the Knew in the recent Ricoh videos. Whether it has the range that might be expected in a 'kit' lens (or would be an economical proposition - it ain't cheap) is another matter.

The 16-85 is/was one of the kit-lenses for the K-3II!

The 16-85 would be a very superior kit lens ... for a very superior camera?

what lens will be paired with the K new by Ricoh and/or other sellers ?

what ever they think will sell the best and give them the larger profit

guess away

I don't imagine it will affect what Ricoh and/or other sellers chooses

The 16-85 would be an excellent option--though not for me as I have that one.
What I'm personally really hoping for is the updated HD DA* 16-50 f/2.8 that appears on the lens roadmap. I'd spring for that.

I could see different kits including the 18-135, or the 16-85, or even the 18-55 based on what vendors want to stock. I could also see body-only sales matching or beating numbers on all body+lens kits combined. I can't see any vendor bundling this body with the 16-50; that might be a $3k USD street priced kit, which sort of defeats the kit concept. I also can't really see a primes + body kit like what was done in the past with the DA 35 f2.4 and DA 50.

It would seem reasonable to assume that many K-new purchasers will be upgraders, so they will buy the body only. For those who aren't, the versatile and not too pricey 18-135 would appear to be the obvious choice to include in a kit.

The following is just a matter of personal taste but, as optically good as it is, I have always thought that the 16-85 is a big, fat, unattractive lump, and sometimes such aesthetics matter in marketing, even if it is not PC to say so!

Seeing how B&H has been selling the K-P, I would think they would sell the K-New in 4 configurations:
1. Body only
2. with 16-85
3. with 20-40 Limited
4. with 18-135

I like the D FA 28-105. To me it is the new technology and seems magic compared to earlier similar rated lenses. Although a little bit pricier than you would normally expect with a kit lens (I always kind of thought of them as disposable dust plugs...dime a dozena the local camera store), Perhaps the mating would provide the additional throughput that would help reduce the per unit cost thereby making a double win. I think matching the camera with a lens that accentuates the technology will make many sit up and take notice..I did when I first used the 28-105, thought I had a whole new camera! It was amazing and range continues to make it a pretty good "walk around" choice.

IMHO, 18-135 or 16-85 seem to make the most sense for a general usage kit lens on the K-new.

Not 20-40. Too limited a zoom range. New photographers might know numbers even if they don't understand lens quality and other nuances.

Not 28-105. It's an ideal FF kit lens but doesn't go wide enough on a crop sensor.

Not 18-55 nor 18-270. Their image quality is not quite good enough for a "flagship".

Ship my K-New with the 16-85. If only in my dreams.

I don't know if they can make it happen in time, but the new 16-50 would be the most appealing imho
