K-New/Focusing/Wildlife

Sorry if I missed this in another K-New thread.

Any speculation as to whether the K-New will have focusing comparable to contemporaries, e.g. for wildlife?

Tons of speculation, a whole heap of expectation but no actual knowledge

Excellently stated! You've covered it brilliantly, LOL!

Thanks. It was actually a pretty stupid question.

I'm just trying to decide whether to hold off, or just get a separate system for wildlife. A lot of affordable DSLR stuff out there right now. Would still keep my Pentax gear for other work.

Biff, what are you using at the moment?
With the right lenses, the KP focuses pretty nicely.

I'm using a KP. If I stay with Pentax for wildlife I'd like to get the 150-450, and think it's among the best if not the best zoom in that range out there. But for $2K I want to be sure I won't be frustrated with the body.

Only for comparison, not saying I'll go this direction, but for about the same price as the 150-450 I could get a Nikon D7500 and Nikkor 200-500.

I'm long sold on Pentax quality, this question is just mainly about wildlife.

Thanks for your reply.

Not really or perhaps "it depends", most of the threads devolve into 'sockets', 'notches' or 'screens' and much 'speculation' so it can be hard to get a real idea of what the true status may be.

On the speculation side, based only on the spacing of the two teaser videos, we might be due for something at the end of September. Probably another teaser but maybe, just maybe, something else.

History would not be a good indicator here..... so we can only hope for a miracle.

FWIW... I'm going away on a boys photography weekend next month.... a friend will have his 7500 and 200-500.... I'll have my K1, KP and 150-450 so I'll have a chance to compare. The KP and 150-450 does not set the world on fire for me in the focusing regard.... for me... it is just incrementally better from the K3 etc... for what I do it doesn't bother me though.... but it is not a fast focusing beast.... if the Knew is a miracle (focus wise).... it will be hard to pass on.

Perfect timing, perfect comparison. I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this when you get back. And appreciate your thoughts about the KP and 150-450.

Thanks much.

Nah... the only stupid question is the one not asked. Besides, we do love to speculate and build expectations.

The 150-450 is my most used lens. And I can't recommend it enough. It's expensive and its a beast. And, for me, it is totally worth every penny. I used it on my K3 before moving to the K1. If you want fast FPS for birdinng, get yourself a Sony A9. A buddy of mine bought one. Why??? I don't know but it's insanely fast, and insanely expensive, with an equally insanely expensive 100-400 lens. And it takes nice pictures. Almost as nice as my K1. Maybe. That choice of staying or going is personal; will be up to you, your needs, your workflow. My K3 shoots more FPS than my K1. But my K1 is more than sufficient to satisfy most of my BIF needs. I don't shoot for a living, so my livelihood is not dependent on FPS.

Isn't that the truth.

I actually purchased the D FA 150-450 last year in anticipation of the K-new approaching Nikon D500 levels of performance. I am still comfortable with that decision. I think all will be revealed this month so you should just wait a little bit longer.
