Originally posted by Flubber I have a question for you guys. Since I said that I was willing to go as high as $2000-$2500, which is K1-II range, would I be better off buying the K1 anyway? Most of my lenses are full frame lenses anyway, and I haven't invested in ApS-c specific lenses. I also only shoot in manual, because I find it fun, so autofocus is not important to me. Would I theoretically be better off buying full frame, to get more out of the gear that I already own?
Just a theoretic question - thinking out loud here. This thought didn't occur to me earlier.
I’d be waiting to see how the Knew performs and what its feature list includes.
The major imaging advantage of the K-1/ii over other Pentax DSLRs, currently, is the dynamic range, but the sensor for the Knew is likely to improve on previous Pentax APS-C bodies in that respect, although the KP’s seems well-regarded.
The feature list is another matter. If you shoot with manual focus, then AF speed and buffer size/speed are unlikely to be attractive features to you. I hate to mention it, but if you shoot macro, the movable rear screen on the K-1 will be a point in its favour.
Then, of course, there’s the matter of the field of view with your lens collection. If you already have focal lengths down as far as 15mm, then you’ve probably got good coverage for APS-C, as well as 35FF. Only you can answer that.
There’s a lot of other things you might want to consider, though, such as weight if you’re walking with a lot of equipment. Are your lenses AF, and/or metal body construction or large aperture, for instance? Personally, I don’t mind the weight of the K-1, but that’s an individual consideration.
Lots to think about while we’re waiting to see the new body.
