What's so sad about that? Both my *istDL and K10D do well with noise reduction turned off. I don't get hot pixels (too much) and if I do I can clone the few out.

Turning off noise reduction is a basic feature a manual photographer should be able to choose. The issue here is choice, I don't have the choice to either leave it on or turn it off. It is on regardless if I want it on or not.

Here is a photo that I took recently, with a K10D I had noise reduction turned off, the few dead/hot pixels I had, I was able to easily clone brush out.

Yep, I understand the issue is choice. If Pentax offered the choice, though, you'd have to shoot dark frames for your estimated exposure times and then subtract the hot pixels in PP. Would you be happy with that solution? It's a moot question though, since Pentax isn't about to change their firmware over this issue.

You know, if Pentax would EXPLAIN themselves as to why they chose to eliminate the manual shutoff of NR people might not be so testy about it...
Personally, choice is good, even bad ones....
My useless guess is either pattern noise or amp hotspot(s) are sooo bad as to be an embarrasement....
There are other models that allow it.

Ok, here is my bit, other than the fact I do not own one yet.

I think the Menu/Graphics looks dated and without pizazz.

I think the Samsung GX-20 is a hell of alot better in this regard for essentially the same thing. Alot easier to read and cope with over a long day shooting.

But with the refreshing new looking graphics on the K2000/KmD, I think the next generation of Pentax's will resolve this.

Now there's a forlorn hope.

... and fud fodder.

As Vatis himself has pointed out.

Interesting discussion about Pentax AF being slow, I thought it was slow / poor until I got a DA* 50-135mm AF speed blows the socks of against my Tamron 17-50mm & hardly hunts, locks on almost instantly. The main reason for the slow AF id waiting for the focus confirmation which is a small thing to put up with for accurate AF.

I love my GX20 & would well recommend it, faults none really, it does everything I want it too....

the live view implementation is half assed. if it was better, with live histogram and properly magnified MF and DOF preview i'd be on it ... and i want face detection too. seriously
Get a point-shoot.

Biggest flaw is it's slow AF speed in low light. A Canon 400D/40D shits all over it. Other than that, it's perfect
It's instantaneous with 21 and 70

[QUOTE=RiceHigh;388468]Read my Blog, I summarised most flaws users and reviewers reported:- RiceHigh's Pentax Blog: K20D

I don't have any of those issues ...the tests seem outright bogus.

The camera doesn't "meter." The exposures are perfect vs my several meters (includes an extraordinarily precise Minolta meter, a Gossen, and a pair of matched Canon F1 meters).

"Features" and "LiveView" are toys.

K20D is a serious photographer's camera , designed specifically for types who take charge of their photography, don't want their cameras to do it for them. For maximum toys and automation there's always Canon and Nikon. Pentax is different.

As I have said, what that function do is to sketch the histogram and redistribute the levels for the whole picture, just lifting up exposure (and increasing contrast as well, as it is sketched).
This is incoherent. Please use English.

Not that I'm knocking my K10D, but from what people say about the K20D, the "flaw" is that I'll probably have to wait at least 6 months or more to upgrade...
