DOF Preview not working?

DOF Preview not working?
i know it's something very obvious but im pulling my hair out. i have checked the manual. the DOF preview is selected to Optical in the menu (where i want to view the DOF in VF)

and i need to press the shutter halfway? then turn the dial with the ON/OFF switch to the right with aperture symbol but nothing happens.

what am i missing?
