I think you are probably right about that. I actually find the viewfinder the most intriguing aspect of it. I love a beautiful OVF.
+1

It's the OVF that has my attention, and second to that the improved ISO performance. After those I don't care too much.

It won't be anywhere nearly as expensive as the next Sony....

I like to note where my photographs have been taken because I enjoy returning after a few years' time to see how things have changed. Not really the intended use of GPS, but it's a fun thing to do with photography.

Hopefully we could autotag images with image sync? Maintaining a wifi direct link would be a drain, but the K3 iii's Bluetooth Low Energy connection would be perfect for this application.
Pair the camera with my phone and use its GPS to tag images, that is.

I am a bit bummed about the lack of tilt screen though, even in favor of the touch screen or OVF. Personally I'm not a big fan of touch screens and am a bit worried about its impact on durability if they switch from a plastic to a glass screen. Never had a problem with the coverage of my OVF though.

Can't wait for the first of the customer reviews to come out.

The documentation indicates that autotagging location using Image Sync over BLE is supported. (I believe that the GR III already supports this, so it should work pretty straightforwardly.)

I would not be worried about durability. I haven't heard of a rash of problems with other vendors' cameras having damage issues since they started adding touch screens. Pentax doesn't seem inclined to sacrifice durability in favor of adding a touch screen just because they wanted to add touch screen. I really can't wait for all the flippy screen whingeing to be replaced by people discovering how many cool things they can do using Image Sync for camera control instead of being beholden to a flippy screen.

ice, thanks for letting me know!

And yeah, my ks-2 has both a flip screen and wireless connectivity and image sync just isn't an option for street photography. Draining your phone battery on an 8 hour shoot, losing control of your non dominant hand, not being able to as quickly switch between the viewfinder and screen without completely losing the composition of a shot just isn't an option, and that isn't what tethering is made for either.

For selfies or landscapes? Image sync is great. But for mobile work it and all other tethering solutions just don't make sense in my view.

To an extent I understand why a field camera doesn't strictly need a flip screen as the wildlife you're photographing would move too quickly for the photographer to deploy it anyway, but pentax's slow release schedule doesn't give them the luxury to make specialist cameras like the bigger brands. They have neither the funds nor the development dollars to release anything other than generalist bodies which appeal to widest possible user base, even if they remain with the DSLR.

The up-to-12 fps speed in continuous or burst shooting is a big improvement over the K-3II. Even if you're not routinely hampered by the latter's performance in this regard, the higher rate of the new camera, along with its improved AF, provides the opportunity for more keepers in a sequence.

There's another small improvement I think a few folks might have missed... flash sync speed of 1/200s vs the K-3II's 1/180s. It's a small bump, but an improvement nonetheless.
Maybe maybe not. Depending on how this is achieved, and based on the FPS rate I suspect that the achievement is faster blade sweep of the shutter. But you need to look at the flash as well and it’s pulse time. I recall, when going from the *istD to K10, the AF540FGZ flash duration exceeded the full open shutter time at full power, leaving uneven exposure on one edge of the frame so the higher sync speed didn’t help
