Ks2 Debug mode help needed

Hi All,

I am trying to get into KS2 debug mode and need a bit of help from you good people here. The instruction I have is as follows:
-----------------------------------------
"Create on SD card file "00077860.551" with "[OPEN_DEBUG_MENU]" and LF char.
Create on SD card file "DEVELOP.MOD" exact 10 bytes long with binary content:
Hexbytes: 07 1A 02 0A 19 18 1B 1C 05 11
Turn off camera, plugin this SD card. Leave card door open. Hold "menu" button and turn camera on."

----------------------------------------
The problem is I don't understand how to create the two files it requires. Even the IT guy at my office said he needed more info...
Can a good samaritan here take a few minutes and create these files and send them to me? I will be eternally grateful.

Best Regards,
Shawn H

On Linux, Mac, or Windows Subsystem for Linux, these bash commands will write the files you need, assuming your working directory is the root of the SD card. On Linux/Mac, all you need to do is open the terminal. On Windows, follow these steps, then run bash.

Code:
echo -n -e '\x07\x1a\x02\x0a\x19\x18\x1b\x1c\x05\x11' > DEVELOP.MOD
Code:
echo -n -e '[OPEN_DEBUG_MENU]\n' > 00077860.551
The alternative would be to write them using a hex editor (for develop.mod) and notepad (for 00077860.551).

Why are you wanting to get into debug mode? If it is too convert a lens to screw drive, I don't think it will work. You'll get the mode, but the firmware won't write out the file to allow editing. This is true of Pentax cameras made since the K-50 or possibly the k-30.

I need extra range for fine focus adjustment.

I have a couple of lenses that are at +10 already. So I thought I'll risk it see what happens. Debug mode worked really well on my KX. Hard sharp with 40mm f2,8. In fact the viewfinder focusing can outperform live view focusing. I will let you all know how it all turns out. I am hoping it would allow me to calibrate the side focus points as well,

Thanks to Adam, I installed the required files and there it was the Debug mode.
I assumed that focus adjustment in the Debug mode is "Applied ALL".
My lenses were set to: 35mm 2.4 @ +10; 40mm f2.8 @ +10 and 18-35 Kit lens @ +8.
Starting with 35mm, I set the user mode focus adjustment to +5 and entered the Debug mode. Using the DotTune method and the distance of 35X focal length (4 ft) resulted in +130um optimum setting. At this point 35mm was done.
Please note: To set the best focus in DotTune method, set FX button to Optical Preview>Open Live view> set lens to maximum aperture> Magnify View> Press FX for Optical Preview (Pentax closed down the lens +2 stops in Live view)> focus target manually.

Next was my 18-55 kit lens. Exit the Debug mode. Using the user fine adjustment function following the steps above resulted in @18mm -1, @35mm -4 and at 55mm -2. I set this lens to -3. Very sharp at 18mm, hard sharp at 35mm and slightly soft at 55mm (still much better than before).

Not going to use the 40mm on this camera. It lives on my KX and is very happy there. A bit of bad news however, My k70 with a shutter count of only 2000 is exhibiting the symptoms for Aperture Block Failure. Does anyone know if it will happen again after repair by Precision Camera ?

Are you still under warranty?

They're going to put a green solenoid in, I assume, and there is always a chance the problem may return. Then again, it may never return. It's a $200 gamble. I put the white solenoid in mine. It's $45 plus tax, plus a JIS screw driver set, a fine point tweezer and electric fine point soldering pen. Still under $100 if you need to buy tools.
