Suggested Memory Card for K100D

Hi, I'm new and finding my way around my first DSLR, a K100D.
I wondered if there are larger SD cards, or which are best replacements? I tried a 16gb I had in an old camera but it won't read it.
Am stuck with 2gb at the moment, if I need to stick to that size then duplicates would be good.
Thanks for any insight you can offer.

The K100D should he able to use SDHC (4-32GB) with the latest firmware. But you need an older SD card to do the upgrade.

Hi Porffor
You did format the 16 gb in the camera ?
Smaller cards are getting scarce so buy them up.
I have a K100D super and run 2 , 4 and 8 gb cards in it ,I don't think ive tried a 16 ?
Sandisk is the brand I use ( easily accessible in Aus )

Winner, great info
I have a slew of older cards.... with the older cameras. I’ve never thrown one out yet, but I’ve given dozens away

Hang up and DRIVE!

I had a heck of a time finding a low capacity one when I got my k100d and wanted to apply the firmware update. It was very difficult. In the end I found a 1gb card. Phew! That was years ago it would be harder now.

They pop up on shopgoodwill sometimes. Lots of old digital cameras, some may have cards...I have a 16 MB card still...

SD card - Wikipedia

I'm pretty sure originally it only worked with sd not sdhc cards. I had to have one that was 2gb or lower to get the firmware on it that supported sdhc cards (2-32gb).

A quick Amazon search for "2gb SD Card" reveled several. They are not exactly cheap per GB though.

Thank you all.
I'll have a look at firmware update and for Lower cards the one I transferred would need reformatting but is a SanDisk shdc so maybe that's what's wrong.

I'll keep hunting for low capacity.

Appreciate the insight, thank you.

Porffor, do you know what firmware yours is currently running? The guys are right, you may need to update your firmware. I ended up using an old phone micro sd card in an sd adaptor: Not ideal, but I couldn't find a small enough card locally!
Just make sure you have really, really good batteries for the update: Preferably lithiums, or AC adaptor, you'd hate to loose a camera due to failing batteries in an update. I used freshly charged Nimh, and it worked, but I was nervous: Next ones I'll do with ac adaptor.

I had a look for firmware and found a link on here saying no update was issued. I need to dig a bit more.
I tried a micro sd on convertor sd card formatted in laptop and camera. Allowed 4 pics then said full.

I've just got my hands on a 1gb and 2gb old cards so will try those later and do more digging about firmware.

I bought ecceloop batteries recommended in here. And duracell lithium rechargeable with the ecceloop charger so they are sound.

Just getting things set up as best I can. I wantes a few cards handy

Hold the menu button down while turning the K100D on, that should display the firmware version.

As for update firmware: Software Downloads : Support & Service | RICOH IMAGING

k100d is definitely there

Firmware 1.0 doesn't allow sdhc. 1.02 does. Also don't confuse k100d and k100d super. The k100d super I think has no updates.

Thanks both @aussiematt - i just checked and it's a 1.0 currently. Will look at the update now.

Have tested the 2 new cards I have, both fine, and feelers out for 2 more. So would give me 9mb in total.
