Pentax K20D V Sony A700 high iso (13img)...

Hi,

I have today made a litlle test with this two cameras.
All with kit lens, jpeg, standard, AWB, NR off.
Sony with the new firmware V4.
Also after lissen some person complaine that the K20D iso 6400 is not that iso, i made a new foto at 6400 +0,5EV and this one is more similar to de Sony regarding the exposition but with better noise and more resolution to the Pentax, so ISO 6400 is more like ISO+-4800.

Pentax K20D a ISO 100

Sony A700 a ISO 100

Pentax K20D a ISO 100 crop

Sony A700 a ISO 100 crop

Pentax K20D a ISO 800 crop

Sony A700 a ISO 800 crop

Pentax K20D a ISO 1600 crop

Sony A700 a ISO 1600 crop

Pentax K20D a ISO 3200 crop

Sony A700 a ISO 3200 crop

Pentax K20D a ISO 6400 crop

Sony A700 a ISO 6400 crop

Pentax K20D a ISO 6400 +0,5EV crop

Regards,

Did LBA hit so hard that you traded your TV for cardboard box and a pair of slippers?

Interesting in a way- unfortunately you did the same thing as dpreview in their test, which is comparing the cameras in JPEG mode. When the cameras process the JPEGS they apply different default noise reduction even if you turn it off (the Pentax is known to apply very little) . To really compare the sensors you would have to shoot raw and then transform them to jpeg on your computer (but even then some cameras apply NR at high iso)

If the K20D's ISO 6400 is actually more like 4800, you would apply minus5 exposure comp and then bring it up in post, rather than applying +5 (which gives you a similar exposure to 3200).

Other than that, interesting test, but I'd rather see it in RAW.
