Started 1981 with a Revueflex AC-2 (rebrandet Chinon CE-4) that was replaced by a used Pentax Super A about 10 years later, because it didn't survive a drop from my shoulder. The Super A wasn't my first piece of equipment Pentax though. I used the M 35/2.8 on the Revuelfex allready.

I switched to digital with a Nikon Coolpix 5000 in 2004, DSLR still to expensive and replaced that with a used ist D* some years later. The Nikon has an excellent IQ even for todays standard, but it's screen is not usable from medium sunlight onwards.

In the 'film days", I always dreamed of the ME Super but somehow I dived into the Minolta MD system (great cameras!). So when I decided to join the digital world, my Pentax sentiment jumped in and I bought the K-50.
And yes, I bought the ME Super eventually

It all started with a K50 kit from Costco for me. I then quickly picked up the K3,K1 then switch to Canon 5dsr, 7D2, 1DX2 added a 645Z and now just a R5 and R6.

I first used a Konica rangefinder in '74-'76 then Pentax S1A and Spotmatic II for a couple of years. In 1978 I bought the only brand new in the box camera I have ever had - a Ricoh XR-2. Through the '80s there were a few acquisitions of K and M lenses at clearance prices when the A series took over along with a number of medium format experiments. Life became busy in the early '90s with little photography for almost twenty years. When I became an ebay addict my first, and still only, DSLR was a K20d. I have a few apsc lenses but my main interest is still film and especially Pentax 645.

I started with a K50. I had been unhappy with the photos I took backpacking and hiking with a compact camera, so looked for an entry level DSLR. Pentax was the pretty obvious pick for an inexpensive camera that could produce great images AND survive rain, snow, sleet, etc. I've since added a KP to get more customizability.

MISSING OPTION

3) Started with a glass plate camera

I'm not kidding. My father gave it to me to play around with in my early teens together with a small remaining stock of plates. He had bought it from a junk shop as a young man, it was already old then.

I think the poll needs to be re-worded as people seem to be missing the "brand" part, or I'm misunderstanding it out the brand. The question is about the first Pentax SLR or DSLR, not other brand, correct?

My first Pentax was the K-S2 about 5 years ago, but I've had another ILC before, the Nikon 1 V1. When I was old enough to slowly develop my interest in photography, it had been mostly digital for a while already, and all the analog pictures taken before that were taken with fixed lens/disposable film cameras and I had not yet realized that there even were such things as SLRs / ILCs...

But!

K1000 and an MX, very early 80's. The "but" though is that I quickly moved to large and medium format cameras, but not Pentax (a buddy did have the 6x7...), and used the MX mostly for slide film to document artworks and exhibitions.

In the digital age my first DSLR's were Oly's, then I moved to Sony FF (both DSLR and mirrorless), then to Pentax 645Z, and added the K1 and then did the board upgrade. I did have a 645N and several lenses, which made the Z purchase possible, and I had a couple of Pentax 35mm format legacy lenses I used with my Sony A7R.

So, it's been a more brand agnostic, twisty path for me.

Started with a 120 film Diana clone at age 5 or 6. Moved to a Yashica rangefinder 35mm and then a Nikon 35mm. Moved to Pentax PZ-1 for my first autofocus system. A few Pentax point and shoot cameras came next. From there I transitioned to a used 2 lens kit Pentax K100D Super, then a K-50/18-135 kit, then the K-3.

Actually, I didn't start out with a film SLR, I started out with a Kodak Instamatic 100 in 1964. It used a 35mm #126 film cartridge and little tiny flashbulbs (as opposed to the tiny 110 cartridges that used "flashcubes"). The Canon AE-1 came much later ("Official camera of the 1980 Olympics" printed on the 50mm f/1.4 lens cap).
