My first own Pentax was an Pentax MX with an M50/1.7, just after that camera came out on the market. Before that I used my fathers Pentax S1 with a hand hold light meeter. Walked out in the forest and photographed birds and animals with a Takumar 55, a Takumar 90 (I think it was) and a silver coloured maybe 200 mm M42 lens wich I had to take apart in molekules to fix the stuck apperture blades on. Maybe I was 15 at that time. Developed my BW-rolls in my own designed darkroom in my parents home. Before that my father teached me to develope and copy black and white film in a temporary darkroom in our house. I was maybe 10 years old at that time. Now I'm 58 and still a Pentaxian and thinking of starting to use my Pentax LX with a number of nice M-series glass I started "collecting" and again setting up my darkroom. Oh, I still has got my first Pentax MX, and my fathers Pentax S1 is in good use by my niece, studying art photography. Developing her BW-rolls in her fathers house in her own darkroom :-) My first DSLR was of course a Pentax (K-x). But at the moment no Pentax exchangeable lens camera. But I'm still hoping to one day find a new release of an up to date Pentax camera in my likings.

A wery friendly guy here at the forum not so long ago told me to, quote " Maybe come back when you have a Pentax body and we'll tell you how to do what you want to do."

I'm longing to :-)

K1000 back in the 70's
Ditto. Shot several times a month with some friends, then by myself for a couple of years. Did an SX70 for awhile too, plus a PhotoMan I used in a graphics business, but gradually drifted away from photography. Think I got distracted with a wife or three, built two houses and started a couple businesses, silly stuff like that.

After three decades away my common sense returned 5 years ago with a K50 and now it's on again.

I started with a Polaroid instant. Would occasionally get to use my mom's 35mm point and shoot until I eventually got my own. (Used my sister's 110 camera a time or two.) Went through several 35mm point and shoot cameras. Then I had a couple of point and shoot digital cameras. Then I just used my phone for a long while. And in the span of about a year, I've gotten my K-7 last November and K-5iis this November.

But I always liked my uncle's SLR and wanted one since I was about 12. Found more people with them as a kid and was always fascinated and occasionally got to fiddle with one. Oddly enough, when talking to him last Christmas, I found out something pretty neat. That SLR that I liked all those years ago? It's a Pentax K1000. He still has it, but hasn't used it in years. His daughter (my goddaughter) went Nikon but he has it in case she ever wants it. I really need to talk to him about at least maybe borrowing some of his old glass...

The first camera I had was a Pentax KM with a 50mm lens. It was my high school graduation gift from my parents. I followed that up with an A3000. Both used sparingly as life took over.

Then I went digital. First with the *Ist DL, followed by the K7 and the K5IIs.

All the cameras I've ever owned:
  • Minolta X-700 (film SLR,1983)
  • Sigma SA-9 (film SLR, 2002?)
  • Pentax K-7 (DSLR, 2009)
  • Pentax K-3 (DSLR, 2014)
Had already been quite aware of Pentax SLRs back in the film days, and admired models like the LX and the Super/Program A, along with some of the A series lenses. Followed what Pentax was doing in digital at least since the advent of the K10D.

Shot BW for some years with an LX and a 645. Then tried out my son's Canon 20D and bought one for myself. Cleaned out most of my Pentax gear. Then read about the K20D on Mike Johnston's blog, tried it and loved it. Been shooting primarily with Pentax ever since, having gone K20D>K-7>K-5>K-5IIs>KP.

I answered straight away with a DSLR based on the way the question was asked, "Who started with the brand straight away with a DSLR vs with a previous film SLR". My first Pentax ever was a K50. However my first camera was a Minolta SRT 101 back in the 70's and shot with Minolta film SLRs and a Kodak digital bridge camera until getting the K50. So I started with the brand with a DSLR.

So if I started with a different brand analog SLR, what should I pick? It's not clear to me.
