A New K-new could be a FF K-2

So while some people were surprised by the name of the K3-III. Myself not being one of them.

This leaves room for a FF K2 below the K1 mark III. Not sure how soon this might happen, preferably before the next K1 update. Clearly it wouldn't have the next gen autofocus but I would be Okay with some concessions. I think the is still a demand for this camera.

Who has the top secret info? Spill the beans.

Possibly - I feel like that'll start to get confusing. I also feel like Pentax has a chance at undercutting the competition in APS-C land and all their resources are likely tied up with that and the new lenses.

A couple of the new lenses are DFA, though (21 Limited, 70-300, the recent HD 35f2 refresh), so a sign of support for continuing the full frame lineup.

I think the specific rumor in the other thread was for an APS-C camera, though, not a full frame.

While I certainly wouldn't complain about a K1 refresh, I think a K70 or KP refresh more likely...

Well, the Pentax model so far has been to give them odd model numbers. Though they could always change that.

Ricoh might consider an upgrade MF before FF.

There's a KX and a K-x so it wouldn't be anything new for Pentax to repurpose a name.

K-1 III could be interesting though, if pricey. If it follows the trend of using the same sensor to Nikon but at a lower price point, then I'd imagine it could be a 45Mpixel monster like the D850, but with Pentax way of doing things and a more affordable price point.

If there is another FF body soon, my guess would be a K-1 III. They'll just keep the K-3 for APS-C and K-1 for FF and add a number at the end to differentiate. I II III IV V

I think the OP was alluding to a cheaper more basic FF as the K-2, rather than a refresh of the K1ii. I am not sure whether or not that would be a smart marketing move, but there is certainly space in the lineup if the K1iii ends up being a very expensive 45MP beast with all the bells and whistles inherited from the K3iii.

As for APS-C, the K3iii has the KP and K-70 beneath it, so that line is looking well-filled.

If the camera market is in free fall as others hint then a 4 th tier of cameras is very unlikely.

I heard it will be named after the call of a small Japanese bird and will operate in green mode only with an advance form of auto scene selection. Of course, those were just my voices saying that. My doctor says I should ignore them, but they make so much sense...most of the time...

Of course there is a strong string of sentiment that a K-70 replacement should be next and should be the design equivalent of the KP,* but with full articulated screen at a solid $700 USD price point.

Steve

* Specifically the KP's aperture control mechanism.

Yes. And I was alluding to the notion that it isn't likely to occur. We'd more likely see a K-1 III and the K-1 II price lowered.

I'd love to see a 645Ω with a full frame sensor, but I won't be holding my breath while waiting.

My bet would also be on a K-1 Mark III coming before an "entry level" full frame option. Unless a K-01 Mark II miraculously appeared with an EVF, flippy screen and a 36x24 sensor....

But seriously, who knows? But then again, it's Christmas, so we can wish for whatever we want, right?

K3iii is what you call K2. Pentax lineup has no room for a FF camera below K1. K3iii is the powerhouse wrt speed. K1 provides resolution. Compare K1 to the 645 system, only one 645 is current. Still there is more overlap between FF and apsc, so life is good.
