47th St. Photo

Not sure if this is the right place, but I am currently renting a Sigma 10-20mm and my due date is tomorrow, It would run me $449.99 to purchase it from the rental company (used once before me), but while I was searching ebay, found the seller
47th st. photo with a bin of $449.95 NEW "Free Shipping". Checked and saw that they have an online retail site and priced it out at $437.00 NEW Shipped. Granted I only save about 13 bucks, but it's new in box.

Has anyone dealt with 47th St. Photo, ebay or retail site? Comments of experience with them.

I bought a lens from them via Amazon, and it went smoothly. No trouble at all getting it shipped to Canada. That was when our dollar was ok!

Good to hear

I noticed it says 1 year warranty with extended 3 year warranty, is this Sigmas standard warranty? 4 years total?

They have been around for many, many years. I purchased a 2X extender for my Miranda from them several decades ago. I haven't bought anything from them in recent years but a business doesn't survive that many years ripping people off.

I would recommend 47th Street. All of my photo stuff is from Adorama, Cameta Camera and 47th Street.

I bought my first film SLR from 47ST Photo. It has been some years since I purchased anything from this company, but I had no trouble at all with their service, etc.

47th street is very reliable, but I wonder whether it's worth it for just a few bucks. It's not like the average lens gets a lot of wear (that's why 30-year old Takumars are still great). Is the lens you have in basically like-new shape? Does it show any obvious defects (front- or back-focusing, softness etc) that may not show up in a different sample? What is the QC record for this lens?

If your rented lens works just as you'd like it to and looks new, the worse thing that could happen is that you get a new one, and it has problems. You could get a replacement until you get a good one, but is the headache worth less than $13?

IMO, if you find a keeper, keep it.

that was discussed here... apparently all Sigma "EX" marked lenses sold in USA have additional warranty from Sigma w/ a proof of purchase... you can write (email) to their (Sigma) customer support to confirm... I did.

The lens was in top shape, it was only used 6 days by one other renter and looked free of defects. I didn't have enough time to make a $450.00 dollar decision, the lens has been sent back, but will probably pick one up next month.
Appreciate all the input from everyone
